NCAA fears of collapse saving Miami

08:20 AM ET 08.18 | On the surface, Miami appears to be in heaps of trouble, though it may be insulated from the so-called death penalty. [The] end game for all of this conference realignment is a 64-team field of BCS schools. Four conferences of 16 teams, breaking away from the NCAA to form their own league so they can keep all the TV money. At the highest level of college sports there would be no need for schools in the MAC or the Mountain West or Conference USA, so there would be no need for the NCAA. And the NCAA knows it. The NCAA isn't some corporate robot. It's a company run by hundreds of people -- good people -- who want their jobs. And lots of them wouldn't have a job if the 64 biggest schools in America break away and form their own super-structure.

As a "U" fan...
If this doesn't get them the Death Penalty, then the Death Penalty will never be administered to another college football team.

"if the 64 biggest schools in America break away and form their own super-structure"
What would the "super-structure" look like? Who would operate the "super-structure"?
Sounds like a building more than an athletic organization!

I know... and after looking at this laundry list, I'm pretty certain they have met the bulk of it.
After what the NCAA handed out to UofSC for two players... the bar has been set for incremental punishment. tOSU is worse than UofSC and the U is way, WAY worse than all the above.

I think they are definitely going to form a new one... and over time it will resemble what we have now but with less schools to oversee.
Would the NCAA remain for the other divisions or would they form another governing body as well?

I think you are absolutely right on all points.
Of course, there is that problem of the money...

The NCAA is worthless IMO. But the irony is that it seems to be exactly what the schools wanted...they created it and have morphed it along the way.

I could see this happening as long as the $$ is there. To me it sounds like the NCAA has a "Lack of institutional control" and "Failure to monitor".
These schools pay them to control the situation and monitor the many but every year HUGE off field allegations come to light and its becoming a broken record!
