Michigan on Arizona transfer's list

Posted: Friday December 14, 2007 08:40AM ET

Laval Lucas-Perry, the former Flint Powers guard, who just obtained his release from Arizona after only one semester, has already heard from 20-30 schools, his mother Patricia Lucas said Thursday night. Among them: Michigan, which has an almost entirely new coaching staff since the Wolverines recruited Lucas-Perry in high school. "They've talked with coach (John) Beilein and he really respects him," Lucas said. "He's definitely not ruling them out." Michigan has a scholarship available, though Beilein has said that he would have to evaluate whether to hand it out, assuming the player was the right fit. She said the plan is to cut the list down to 3-4 schools when Lucas-Perry arrives back in town on Saturday and they're hoping to catch a Michigan game, with the Dec. 22 game against UCLA as the most likely opportunity.

The problem is we need a big man... don't get me wrong, we'll take him, but we need someone to crash the boards and control the paint and toss it out for open threes...

Michigan still has a basketball team???

I thought they dismantled the program when the fab 5 got removed from the record books.....

Get him John Beilein! Get him!!

Yes, we will be back..Michigan is one of FEW schools that can have both great football and baseketball progams.

I hope so, UM needs to turn things around all over, I think everyone should just start getting paid again, like the old days, if everyone could just keep their mouths shut about it.

Yes, we have a basketball program. It is also known as Michigan State's "Little Brother".

Truth...Don't MANY teams have a better combination of football and basketball than Michigan? Florida--Ohio State--Illinois--Oregon--Oklahoma--Wisconsin--Kansas--UCLA--USC--Texas--Tennessee--Louisville. We haven't been good at both in a LONG time. Football is usually tough, but its been about a decade since the fab five? SOme might even consider MSU better when you look at the basketball dominance.

Since I am from the Flint-ish area i hear a lot of gossip on the issue--from what I have heard, the players at AZ (especially the black players) treated him like crap (Perry is black by the way). The rumor is that he came to the first team meeting in a sports coat, and the other black players ripped on him and were always all over him about his "preppy" upbringing. He is a great kid and a VERY intelligent one. He comes from a great family and he would be a HUGE asset to the UM program. Didin't/doesn't his sister play at MSU though? Talk about a family crisis.

Spenny:

Those schools you mentioned? Part of the small group of schools that CAN do both. Let us remember that WAYYYY before there was ever a Fab Five...there was the 1989 team...that year Michinga FB had a great season..Bo's final year.

In the 1970's Michigan has another team go to the title game...Michinga Football? Great. My point is...Michigan has done it..and CAN do it again!

I apologize for my spelling errors...I am also trying to type up my resume to apply for the Head Football coaching position...I figure I got as good a shot as Brady Hoke.

I've got your point, but when compared to Michigan...especially in the last decade...I see more than a FEW teams that they can be compared to. Maybe I am bias because I remember the days (I am sure you do as well) when we used to beat MSU and Ohio State in both sports. It feels as though that basketball has been off the radar forever....it probably hasn't been as long as it seems, but I feel like the polar opposite of Duke...great at one and completely horrible at the other. I hope UM gets things turned around in a hurry.

Just lie on your resume like O'Leary. I'll bet ND wishes they had turned a blind eye to that one.

Do you have one of those Louie Carneseca sweaters?

From a die-hard UA fan, I can say that we are sorry to see him go. There were no rumors in the local media about a reason for his departure, but playing time had to be part of it.
Most of us here would've liked to see him play more, but we have a glut of guards here at Point guard U.
From the little that we saw of him, he did impress. He'll do well wherever he ends up.
Seems like a class act too.
Good luck LLP!!!

Once he saw Wise tearing it up & knowing we have they have one of the countries top point guards coming in next year he knew he would always be the third option.
