Bradley blasts Semin: 'Just doesn't care'

For the better part of three months, various members of the Washington Capitals have tiptoed around the issues afflicting the team. They'd mention leadership, commitment and discipline, but nothing specific enough to explain yet another postseason collapse. On Wednesday, though, former Capital Matt Bradley stopped speaking in generalities. ... Bradley took aim at [Alexander Semin]. "I don't mind saying Alexander Semin's name, because he's one guy who has so much talent, he could easily be the best player in the league, and just for whatever reason, just doesn't care," Bradley said. "You need him to be your best player, or one of your best players, and when he doesn't show up, you almost get the sense that he wants to be back in Russia."

Absolutely true. It'll be interesting to see what happens now. This is where I'm continuing to be disappointed in Ovie as well. As a fellow Russian and the captain for now, he should have been all over Semin last year and stuck Semin's purse where the sun don't shine! I compare Semin's talent to Datsyuk. A guy who can dazzle with his talent, and does. The difference is that Datsyuk gives 110% and Semin gives 10%.....sometimes.

If you notice, the person who said it left the team. When on the team they would never say this. Keep that in mind when it comes to Ovie, they might be having behind the scenes conversations.

You're right of course. But I stll think the comment is true and I hope it has some positive results. I don't know how to curse in Russian, but I know Ovie does and I hope he's giving Semin two ears full. It's maddening when you see the ability that Semin has and realize that he's not trying too hard most nights. If he gave the effort that Halpern does, and Bradley did, two guys with a fraction of his ability and who give 10 times the effort he does, he'd be one of the top players in the league.

Totally agree. Semin and Green have both been frustrating to watch in the playoffs. BTW, "Blast" and "Semin" should not appear together in a respectable online website.

Hasn't it already been decided that the Caps lack leadership? Anyone BUT Ovie should talk to Semin. Maybe Semin should sit down with the Verizon Center's maintenance crew?

Semin was terrible, but its not like Backstrom was much better. The guy put up 105pts a season ago and last year tarnished his sheets as a follow up. Not sure why he's getting a free pass on this - Semin is in another contract year, Backstrom got another of those contracts for life. Who's the biggest concern for the Caps, really?

Yes,... he blasted Semin about his lack of effort, and then again about his lack of discipline and preparation, but he was careful not to get the coach caught up in it... and if needed I bet he could unleash again blasting Semin about fighting like a girl.
