Grobe responds to Michigan links
Posted: Friday December 14, 2007 08:44AM ET
Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe is trying to ignore the rumors about him being a candidate for the Michigan job. Grobe told the Charlotte Observer that he's trying to keep the focus on his team's preparations for its Meineke Car Care Bowl appearance here Dec. 29, but it hasn't been easy. Asked Thursday if he had been contacted by anyone associated with Michigan, Grobe said, "It's gone on with Nebraska. It's gone on with Arkansas. Now it's going on with Michigan. I've just got to get out of all that stuff. There's no comment I can make that helps the situation."

Report Offensive CommentYeah, this guy is not marquee. Maybe he could be - maybe. But not now. I'm kind of embarrassed for the Old Blues out there.

Report Offensive CommentClintinDFW - why is this name so funny...? 8-4 at Wake Forest... pretty decent.
Other names have been much more rediculous than this one...

Report Offensive CommentYea ... being an Ohio State Fan ... Grobe doesn't scare me. Gruden scares me. Not Grobe. If you are gonna give it to a no name ... at least give it to a minority coach and give them a shot.

Report Offensive CommentGrobe's name will do for the Freep until next week, when Les Miles's name resurfaces there....

Report Offensive CommentI think you missed the point. When OSU hired Tressel, did anyone think he was anything? Look what he turned out to be... the best coach in their history...
Tressel was not a big name when you hired him, and has turned out great. I think he is one of the best in the game right now with Meyer. He and Meyer are heads above Miles, etc. But he wasn't a big name out of the NFL or premeir d1 school...
Thats why, to make fun of names like Grobe and Kelly, who have proven themselves, is what I found strange..
biminator | 12/14/07, 10:36 AM
Report Offensive CommentYes....Tressell raised ALOT of eyebrows when he was hired. And If I am not mistaken, I think most folks wanted Glenn Mason?

Report Offensive CommentHouston hires Sumlin, eighth minority coach in FBS.
Houston has hired Oklahoma Sooners co-offensive coordinator Kevin Sumlin as its head coach, a person told of the decision said Thursday morning.
Sumlin would replace Art Briles, who resigned Nov. 28 to take the top job at Baylor.
Houston athletics director Dave Maggard told the Houston Chronicle that he was prepared to name Sumlin, who has spent the last five years on Bob Stoops' staff at Oklahoma, on Friday.
Chris Burkhalter, Houston's associate athletics director, confirmed to The Associated Press a news conference had been scheduled for noon Friday but couldn't elaborate. A call to Maggard was not immediately returned to the AP.
Sumlin has been Oklahoma's co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for the past two seasons, after three seasons as specials teams and tight ends coach.
Sumlin was assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for two years at Texas A&M; he also has coached at Purdue, Minnesota, Wyoming and Washington State.
Sumlin will be the eighth minority college football coach in the former Division I-A. Sumlin, 43, was a linebacker at Purdue from 1983 to 1986.
Other candidates considered by Houston included Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Haywood and former Houston coach Jack Pardee.
