08:28 AM ET 08.19 | There is a new sheriff in town, and he comes with deep pockets. With the blessing (and sizeable wallet) of first-year owner Terry Pegula, Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier made a series of uncharacteristic (see: expensive) moves over the off-season, changing the complexion of his team and raising the expectations of his team's fans in the process. ... Q: As capgeek.com points out, you're still about US$3.5-million over the salary cap, the deadline to get under ... A: "Start of the season. Yeah, we have some work to do yet." Q: Is anything available at this point? A: "I think we'll probably, more than anything, look toward the trade market and see what we can do there."

The Devils will be happy to take Miller off your hands if that frees up some money for you.

umm yeah... sorry about your luck.

I think what will end up happening is Brad Boyes will be the next star of the AHL.

...Local word in Buffalo has it that Regier will try to offer Alice Kotalik and/or Shaone Morrisonn as trade-bait for (very low; like 25th round low) draft-picks.

And barring that, will bury both their hits in Rochester. Though, Morrisonn has already said he's be glad to play for the Amerks (in a full-time mentoring and leadership role) rather than languish in the NHL with only a handful of minutes every night.

You sure? Miller is more and more looking like the East's version of Luongo. There is no way they should have lost that series against the Flyers. But they folded in game 7 and Miller led the way.

I'd take my chances with him. Better then the post-Marty look we have which consists of 3 prospects, and hoping maybe Rinne isn't too expensive on the open market.

Those have been the rumblings out of Buffalo - The fans are divided into two camps: Jesus Miller Vs. Mr Softee.

One screams that he can do no wrong, while the other responds that he's a moody, entitled prima donna...

He's always seemed to have an issue with focus - He's a very capable goalie who's always battling distraction. And, to be fair, he's played the better part of his career behind some fairly soft and positionally poor defenses.

...But, to lay the curse of Bobby-Loo on him? Mmmmmm...the jury's still out on that.

Ha ! That back you are staring at in line Nard is that of Kenny Holland

This is true. The Michigan boy tiring of the sketchy nonsense in Buffalo and returning to town (to play with his brother) and close out his career with a couple/three championships...

...Not so far-fetched. Before signing his contract there were some "Hockey folks" (legit insiders) in uffalo who had said that Miller was this >< close to just saying "Effitt" and jumping to the Wings..

With the team he's been surrounded with, he tends to put a great deal of pressure on himself to perform - And it doesn't help that Ruff can't seem to manage a goalie-rotation to save his life.

Miller's just not built for the kind of grind he's faced with the Sabres. Might be nice to play behind a team that can actually play Hockey every night.

uffalo = Buffalo* durned shift-key...

I wonder now that Buffalo has an owner committed to winning. It sounds like things are getting serious with the Sabres and they do have a good young core of players to build on. I can see them being the dark horse in the East this year and surprising a lot of people.

So long as Regier and Ruff remain in the driver's seat I shall continue to have deep-seated doubts - Four separate ownerships, no Cup.

...The common thread running through the underachievement of the past 14 seasons? Marcy and Mindy - The Bobbsey Twins. Where else in professional sports, but Buffalo?

Pegula shoulda cleaned house.

Just in: Chris Drury retires after 12 seasons...

Yeah. Sure. He's such a burden to the Sabres and their fans. But .... it costs nothing to dream.
