Williams isn't in shape for Bears

08:01 AM ET 08.19 | Among the disconcerting issues with the Bears offense is the fact that a starting wideout admits he's not in shape. Roy Williams was inserted into the starting lineup, replacing Johnny Knox for a variety of reasons. But Williams admits he is not in shape at this point, and that has been increasingly apparent watching the veteran go through practice at sometimes less than peak speed. Williams acknowledged that the biggest thing for him to work on at this point is "my conditioning. Getting my wind right. You have to be able to run in this offense." ... As far as being in game-ready shape: "Ooh, yeah ... About that. How many more weeks have we got?" he joked. Told that there were still a couple of weeks, he smiled: "Yeah, I'll be ready by then." That would be a good thing. But not necessarily a given.

He wasn't in shape for the Cowboys either, lol.

None, and I mean NONE, of the NFL players will be in playable shape until about week three of the regular season.

August 19, 2011  08:18 AM ET

What!? And here, I thought that all of that practicing of his "first down" maneuver...would keep him in "tip-top" shape.

He's recovering from the mail order proposal.

Sign a bunch of players who disappointed for another team... and guess what they'll do for you.

August 19, 2011  08:24 AM ET

Williams isn't the only player out of shape. He's just the only player owing up to it.

August 19, 2011  08:25 AM ET

Perhaps not, but judging by that pic, Lovie's been hitting the weights and is ready for bathing suit season.

What?

August 19, 2011  08:35 AM ET

Roy out of shape....you first have to be in shape to get out of shape.....he's a slacker

August 19, 2011  08:36 AM ET

Roy hasn't been in playing shape since he signed the big contract.

As the seasons go by...
The interviews get easier...but not the conditioning.

I'm going to go to a corner now and laugh my **** off.

August 19, 2011  09:10 AM ET

Why am I not surprised by this?

That's his fault as he got another chance and hye's blowing it however....If the Bears did
not pay Peppers 90 million they would have had more dough to bring in better players so
