Ovechkin taking to many practices off?

08:26 AM ET 08.19 | In recent days, little bits of insider information have slipped out about the Caps, with Matt Bradley taking aim at Alexander Semin. Bradley pulled his punches a bit when discussing the bigger "someone," Alex Ovechkin, praising his on-ice play. That's pretty typical and fair, because Ovechkin plays as hard as anyone in the league. But Bradley also hinted at Ovechkin's conditioning deficiencies. ... Ovechkin has even tacitly acknowledged the fact by saying he's going to show up at camp in better shape next month. One way to stay in shape would be to participate in more practices. There is no question that the Caps' stars sit out of a LOT of practices, and not just the morning skates after a night game.

"Ovechkin taking too many practices off?"

With two O's, you idiot.

And you have to wonder what bug bit Bradley and who he'll criticize next. Maybe the picture of Boudreau means something.

You don't play for the Capitals anymore Matt. Thanks for stopping by. You can go home now.

I love how Gabby said he thinks Ovie is a great captain 'on the ice'. What about off the ice? There are guys that take their captaincy seriously and go above and beyond just on-ice play. Ovie may bust his butt on the rink but he's far from a good captain.

I've always wanted Laich to be the captain. I think given the opportunity, he'd be an excellent captain.

Someones bitter they just went from a first place to last place team....

I wouldn't say that the information "slipped" out. Bradley has been shooting off his mouth and like Stranger said you have to wonder why.

Other than that has anything Bradley said been a mouth dropping surprise?

Joel Ward > Matt Bradley

I found the transcript....

"If I can't practice, I can't practice. It is as simple as that. It ain't about that at all. It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about practice. We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're talking about practice. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game last it's my last but we're talking about practice man. How silly is that?

Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about practice. We're talking about practice man. (laughter from the media crowd) We're talking about practice. We're talking about practice. We're not talking about the game. We're talking about practice. When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you've seen me play right, you've seen me give everything I've got, but we're talking about practice right now. (more laughter) "

Kind of silly it seems to me. Whatver else he does, Ovie plays hard, every shift in every game. Matt seems a tiny bit irritated about leaving? In any event, good luck to him. I don't gave a rat's behind about the practice comment. I just wish they would stop taking playoff series' off.

Careful, Ovie might blast Semin today.....

...Break out the Swiffer and the Windex...LOL!!!

Been watching the replays of the WSH-TBL series (on NHL network) - Boudreau seemed alternatingly lost, baffled, angry and desperate. And Semin was diving and crying (and generally being a total girl.)

Ovie was pretty much busting his butt - But, he seemed like the only one (or one of a very small handful.) Gotta wonder what's going on in that dressing-room...? Definitely seems like a culture of underachieving.

Methinks Boudreau's hanging by a short-n-curly...

Bingo! I reckon that headline will be referenced in Caps threads for the entire season.

Ovie doesn't play hard every shift in every game. He did a couple of years ago when he was fit. Last year he played hard when the puck was in his general vicinity, but he took a whole bunch of shifts off.

Captain doesn't mean best player. It means best leader. I don't buy that Ovechkin is the best leader on that team.

He was out-coached that entire series. Boudreau's entire focus was on three guys. St Louis, Vinny and Stamkos. What happened? Guys like Purcell and Bergenheim were killing them.

Offensively, they couldn't solve that 2-2-1 thing TB was doing. I think this team is too skilled and not enough grind and battle. TB proved that.

You sure the interns are capable of that kind of deep thinking?

Deep frying maybe. Deep thinking....not so much.

Pretty bad when your spelling is corrected by a non-native English speaker ;)

If it is true (IF) and Ovie takes too many practices off that becomes as much a coaching issue as it does an Ovie issue.
