Sharks-Habs deal in works?

The Montreal rumor mill has been grinding away this week - and the Sharks have been front and center in much of the trade gossip. First, San Jose was supposed to be sending forwards Patrick Marleau and Steve Bernier to the Canadiens for forwards Saku Koivu and Michael Ryder. Then it was Koivu and Ryder for Marleau alone, or Bernier and center Joe Pavelski. Other names were tossed into the mix.

As a Habs fan I would like to see some changes made to the team's roster. However, I am not sure about losing Koivu and Ryder. The names SJ are tossing around are good names, don't get me wrong. But losing our captain worries me a bit. I suppose Marleau is probably better than anyone on the Habs roster. I'm really at a loss for words...I guess we will see what happens. Probably nothing as FN's rumour mill is rarely accurate.

I really don't see the Habs trading their heart and soul (Koivu). Ryder may get moved simply because he is a free agent next season and the Habs may not want to pay him market value. Marleau is a solid NHLer, no doubt, but I wonder about his ability to perform in a hockey-mad French market, which is never easy for French-Canadian players, especially after playing a number of years in sunny California. The Habs need an offensive boost though, so I can see Gainey trying to do something drastic.

I swear I've probably heard this rumour 30 times over the last few years. It's either Marleau going to the sens or habs, i'm not buyin it. Even Doug Wilson has said over and over again that Marleau will not be traded.

Wow, I have heard this rumour probably about 30 times over the last few years. Marleau going to either the sens or habs. I dont see it happening, espeiailly when Doug Wilson has said over and over again that he will not trade Marleau.

It's funny that this rumour is being mentioned even though it's been mentioned by a few other sources that there is nothing true about it. The rumour came about when Bob Mackenzie a hockey analyst for TSN in Canada was on a Montreal radio station and mentioned that Montreal, Anahiem and San Jose were likely working harder to make some changes to their struggling teams, however, this was twisted by those in the Montreal media into the players mentioned in this rumour. Here is the link to the Mackenzie's TSN blog where he says that the rumour is totally false to his knowledge

Koivu out of montreal? the fans will be pissed.. as already said, he's the heart and soul of the team. With that said, i've seen crazier things happen, and though i don't wanna see Koivu leave the CH, i wouldn't be too shocked..

Bob Mackenzie is a joke.he and john davidson are the 2 degrees of seperation that tell us they know everything going on in the n.h.l.and the majority ends up being malarky.anyway the only one i see getting dealt is ryder, who,s been a healthy scratch, and only has 3 goals so far.

Hey 4th

Tough loss yesterday hey. In any case it was a good game.

Bob MacKenzie is usually spot on with whatever he says...he doesn't make ridiculous statements and is correct with what he says 99 times out of 100

Regardless of whether Bob Mackenzie is a joke or not, the rumour of a trade between Montreal and San Jose was credited to him as the one who broke the story on it. But from the link I posted before Mackenzie says that he never said that there was a trade between Montreal and San Jose on the horizon, all he said was that Montreal, San Jose and a few other teams might be looking to make some changes.

come on people koivu for marleau sounds great to me and then ryder for bernier another good trade ................. next up bye bye carboneau

Gainey looks like a genius for signing Ryder to a one year contract. He has been an absolute bust this year. I say ship him off. I wouldn't be surprised to see Koivu go also. He's probably sick of the press in Montreal constantly hounding him about not speaking French.

Gainey will do Koivu a huge favor if he trades him! Koivu has taken enough abuse from the rabbid Montreal media! They don't deserve a gentleman of his class and stature in La Belle Province. (DC)
