08:14 AM ET 08.20 | The Pirates are close to signing outfielder Jose Tabata to a long-term deal and are in contract discussions with second baseman Neil Walker, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations. While a new deal for Tabata could come within the next several days, an extension with Walker "is not imminent," according to the source.

This is precisely why there are still so may skeptics in the Burgh. This ownership group has been terrible for years and have made a ton of profit while fielding bad teams. Now the true test comes when we see if they actually sign some of these players to long term deals and make good on what have been hollow promises in the past.

I, for one, remain skeptic.

The Pirates finally seem to be doing a few things right.

the pirates should sign this players to a long term deal, plus the deals shouldn't be that high either and as long this franchise don't turn around and trade them with the tag all together like the rockies did with ubaldo jimenez!!

the angels don't have the luxury as the rangers or the braves to have deep farm system, because the had refused to fire the useless GM regins, if the halos would take care that area then things could be on better shape, everything starts with their farm system and as long the angels remain blind and keep this good for nothing GM then this franchise will continue to sink!!

You can't blame their GM solely. Moreno is telling him what to do, allotting him the funds. Trading for Wells was dumb. That contract is horrible.

could the pirates sign this type of players? should they? would they? the time will tell!!

trading its one thing doing and follow their feelings its another thing, one thing that the owner tell him to do it, another thing its making a bigger hole for the franchise, regins as a GM should had advice better his own boss that that type of deal was out of order, where its the win-win situation? where its the knowledge as a general manager? all this wrong doing tells me my answer, this GM lacks of knowledge and lacks of experience, bill stonman did better job than this clown!!

August 20, 2011  02:01 PM ET

sometimes the owners screw things on their team, and that's why they have president on the franchise all kind of big shots on top, and that's why they have their general manager to make sure things will go on the right direction, and on the right way, but if the chief in charge has poor vision as captain then ship will shink!!

August 20, 2011  02:06 PM ET

the only good thing the angels have done right its being able to develope great managers, joe maddon, bud black, roeneke who is now with the brewers, guess mike sciocia has the patient and the knowledge to develope good masters on the MLB!!

August 20, 2011  05:53 PM ET

here it comes the rally monkey, perhaps the halos have to use the rattle sneak rally, it may work for the better for the angels!!!
