Ravens take huge risk with McKinnie

08:00 AM ET 08.24 | The Ravens attempted to bolster their offensive line by signing offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie on Tuesday. The 6-foot-8, 350-plus-pound lineman was technically a Pro Bowl player for the Vikings in 2009 even though he didn't bother showing up for any of the Pro Bowl practices and was kicked off the NFC squad. The talent is there for McKinnie to be the Ravens' short-term answer at right tackle -- or maybe even left tackle -- but there are a few reasons why the soon-to-be 32-year-old was still on the free agent market. For one, he has been charged in three different incidents since entering the NFL in 2002. ... He also was cut by the Vikings this summer for showing up to camp in awful shape, reportedly more than 50 pounds overweight.

I think the NFL should hire me and give me a second chance. Even though there technically was no first chance. Here's how I want my contract to read; For the next 5 years $150 million dollars $50 million guaranteed. My bonuses will include that I show up everyday and stay within a set weight and stay out of trouble with the law. The fact that I'm over 50 years old should not be a hinderance because I'm sure I could outrun some of these football players.

Why is it a huge risk? Did they pay him a pile of guaranteed up-front money? I doubt it. Does he have a no-cut contract? I doubt it.
If he's not performing by week 4 or 5, they can show him the door. Like the Haynesworth deal with the Pats, it's low risk, high reward.

Maybe it's just me, but if it came down to me laying off the hamburgers and fries, or give up a chance to make millions of dollars playing a !@#$%^& game, I'm thinking I would make some sacrifices and limit my 'burger + fries intake accordingly ;]

Not if he can't get out of his stance. He can't even move from a two point stance, let alone a three point. Speed rushers go right around him, and power rushers go right through him. The only thing he was good at on a football field was walking to the sidelines when the Vikes had to punt again.
