08:15 AM ET 08.24 | Ronnie and the Jets may not be a match, after all. Though [Ron Artest] declared his intention to The Times two weeks ago that he's "definitely going to play" for the British Basketball League's Cheshire Jets, his agent, David Bauman, said the team hasn't offered Artest insurance, which poses a "major problem" and would prevent the Lakers forward from joining the team. "It's still on the table," Bauman said Tuesday in a phone interview. "But again, this insurance thing is a significant and a serious obstacle for any of the NBA players." ... Without insurance, Artest could risk his contract becoming void should he suffer an injury with another team during the NBA lockout.

During the nhl lockout about a quarter of the league (including many superstars) were forced to dig into their own pockets if they decided to suit up for european clubs... I guess most of them did it because they saw it as a pretty good experience and a chance to do something different. I would imagine with many of the nba players it will be similar.

It's probably for the best. Ron said that he had other opportunities in England, starring in a movie and comedy shows (or so he said), so I guess he can go and concentrate on that.
