Notre Dame takes safe route with Crist

08:21 AM ET 08.24 | Once a heralded recruit, Dayne Crist is again the future of Notre Dame football -- for now, anyway. That passion, that drive, and Crist's ability to command [Brian Kelly's] complex spread offense allowed him to be anointed as the Irish starter for their Sept. 3 debut against South Florida. Don't worry, this seismic revelation didn't have a thing to do with the earthquake on the East Coast. It was hardly a shocker that Crist was chosen over sophomore Tommy Rees. Even though Crist struggled to master the offense last season -- a 4-5 record attested to the difficulty -- choosing Crist was the safe way to go. ... If the Irish were to have problems against South Florida with Rees at the controls, media and fans would have had a field day second-guessing Kelly.

Was he the one with the shaved head or the one in the red jersey?

Now they'll have to second guess Kelly, after ND struggles with USF with Crist at the controls! Just sayin'.

Correct me if I'm wrong Domers, but wasn't Rees at the helm during your last few games last year? The games you won and looked impressive? I don't get this... somebody needs to tell Kelly that you dance with who got you there (in this case it is "there" is winning).

He will dance with the offensive line, and with the defense! Hopefully Crist and Floyd will come up huge...but last year's finish was 90 percent the defense playing out of there minds! Go ahead, research it.

Above .500, which means the domers will be screaming BCS bowl. Then they'll lose a third tier bowl game in OT to MTSU Blue Raiders. Domers will claim the players were not "up" for the bowl, due to disappointment. They'll also, point to the many questionable calls they didn't get.

So, no!

South FL will be a good test for the Fighting Irish, I think ND will do OK this year. I think that piratey might be right with the 2-1 loss possibly 3 this year, prob go a BCS bowl for sure.

Rees had about as much to do with the wins as Trent Dilfer did in the Raven's superbowl

They still gave Dilfer a ring, though.

I don't know how many they will win, but I think they will be really good. Brian Kelley's second team at UC won a conference championship. I don't know how many decades it had been since UC won a conference championship in football, but I'm pretty sure it was at least 4.

Yeah, the Domers go 14-0 and I already have my Cubs World Series tix on order.
