Dalton a candle in the Bengals darkness

08:00 AM ET 08.26 | Cam Newton had this to say of his completion percentage Thursday: "That's embarrassing." Meantime, [Andy Dalton] was OK. In fact, he was beyond OK. No one would suggest he has passed the audition. This is August, and this was Carolina. The Panthers and the Bengals are (1) and (1a) in the NFL's worst-fest. But Dalton was better Thursday than he was last week, and he was better last week than he was the week before, and that's all you can ask from this kid in this situation. Dalton located A.J. Green in single coverage and delivered him a 40-yard TD bomb. Green got the better of Carolina corner Chris Gamble, an eight-year veteran. If you're looking for candles in the darkness of Bengals football, there you go.

Anyd will be just fine, other than the fact he unfortunately ended up with one of the most dysfunctional franchises in the NFL.

Kid has skills... One of the most accurate QB's at the combine.

Just don't know if he went to the best team or situation.

Is this a preview of the Suck for Luck Derby?

Hardware stores have run out of candles here in the Northeast. Panic buying ahead of the storm. I bet the grocery stores run out of bottled water, too, and I'm sure somebody will call Comcast to ask how to stock up on extra Internet in case the cable goes down.

But is he the wind beneath their wings?

August 26, 2011  08:30 AM ET

That light at the end of the tunnel could be the train.

August 26, 2011  08:30 AM ET

Damn... Random, but if you guys want to see sad, try listening to Peter King attempting to find something positive to say about the Cowboys in that video!

When you bring up the Defensive coordinator's hair, your digging....

One of these teams could very likely win that race. Andy Dalton would become next years Jimmy Clausen... But it would be really interesting to see what the Panthers would do with the top pick. Newton showed in this game he is not ready to take the reins yet, a 44 QB rating against the Bungles... Gonna be loooong for Carolina fans.

He'd better hope Dr. Feelgood is the team trainer. He's gonna take a pounding.

Ain't no doubt about it, he was hardly blessed,
He wore number 14, and he was badly dressed.
