Miami's free-agent shopping list

Top among Miami's list of players to chase in free agency should be Indianapolis safety Bob Sanders. So the Dolphins might look at either South Florida native Asante Samuel or Oakland's Nmamdi Asomugha as their game-changer at cornerback. That is the reason Tennessee's Albert Haynesworth glows in neon as a target.

how much over market value will the dolphins have to pay? b/c the worse a team is the more you have to pay for quality fa's.

December 16, 2007  08:13 AM ET

The Colts will sign Sanders long-term. They have 12 million dollars in cap, and that will rise to 20m during the offseason. The Colts also don't have to sign a first round pick, a blessing in disguise. I would guess that Nmamdi Asomugha is their best shot.

Colts will sign him or franchise him. He ain't going anywhere.

I think they will trade the number one pic in the draft for as many pics as they can get. It would be dumb to pay big money for one or two players in FA, they are way more than a few players away from respectability..

December 16, 2007  09:43 AM ET

I don't even really want to comment on this - the Dolphins need to sign an entire TEAM of free agents to turn it around - if they think an injury prone Bob Sanders can single handedly turn the team around, then the REAL free agent they should be chasing is a new GM (which should be the case anyway)

December 16, 2007  09:48 AM ET

Their drafts have sucked in the last decade, so what is the real problem? Bring in some leadership, mainly someone who is a good talent evaluator.

As a Patriots fan, though, I like the Dolphins just the way they are.

December 16, 2007  09:48 AM ET

They need to start with a running game. I hope Darren McPhadden likes living in Miami.

Don't worry NFL fans! If Mueller is still the GM in Miami, the fins will always make the WRONG decision with player personel. Just look at the miserable choices he's made over the years... And why would any good player want to come to the Dolphins now? The team is a chaotic roller coaster to NFL hell and misery.

And the Fins won't draft Mcphadden -- Not with how good Ronnie Brown ran and caught this year before he got hurt. Fins need a QB, Beck isn't going to cut it.

50yearfan , I agree it would be smart to do this, but disagree that 'they will' do this. A random person off the street hired as GM would have fielded a better team than they have over the past 5 years.

That's how they rebuild. Fire whoever is in charge down there. Because they no idea, Mueller or whoever.

Free-agent shopping list? haha

You name the position, and they need talent there. That is one helluva list! Maybe they could ask Santa to bring them some talent for Christmas.

December 16, 2007  02:10 PM ET

Sanders will stay in Indy. Samuel will sign with the Dolphins

My 2 cents

December 16, 2007  06:51 PM ET

The Dolphins need Darren McPhadden as much as they need another kick and punt return specialist...

They need help on the O-line, a solid blocking tight-end, they could use help at wide-receiver and they need defensive ends and linebackers...

I feel time has come to let go of Jason Taylor, Zack Thomas and Ricky Williams, these departures should translate in more picks, maybe a 2nd and 4th rnd for Taylor, a 3rd and 6th for Thomas and a 5th or 6th for Williams...

Satele is solid, Ginn JR and Booker are coming along, Beck has shown promise... So this Dolphins team shows it can find real players... Hopefully they find more men of Samson Satele's caliber...

Something tells me that the Dolphins win against the Ravens is a sign of good things to come...

Sanders seems pretty happy to me. The colts will sign sanders and clark in the offseason.

December 17, 2007  01:50 PM ET

kingkobrakai - the dolphins have some talent, just not enough to go around. Ronnie Brown has the ability to lead the NFL in rushing if he's healthy and there is a passing game to keep defenses honest.

Iznogood - I don't know what you see in Booker, I was against him from the jump start. His routes are sloppy, that's why he never gets the ball thrown his way. Not to mention that when a ball is thrown his way he never racks up YAC and even drops some easy balls. He's a 3rd WR on any other team in the league.

Sanders isn't going to leave Indy, he is the heart and soul of the defense. They'll slap the franchise tag on em. And the first pick is going to whatshisname from LSU, the defensive tackle. The guy is a freak and, let's face it, our defense is a joke. We've got some of the oldest DTs in the league. He'll not just give us depth but give us pressure so we don't have to blitz as much.

IF we use our #1 pick, and that's a big IF because we might trade down, which wouldn't be a bad thing, but IF we use it would be on that DT, and Miami fans will hate that. We should snag a WR in the 2nd or 3rd, but do our research. Ginn is great but I think he should have been a 2nd rounder. And it doesn't make sense to draft another QB, we'd just blow it again and ruin Beck's confidence. And anyone who follows the Phins knows we've been drafting O-linemen for the past 5 or six years, they should start coming together over the next two years. We need to get our defense back, but we should just grab the best player available no matter they're position.

It's still a bleak future, but we need to start making decisions with the future in mind. No quick fixes here. Think "Buffalo Bills." They were the laughing stock for three years and now they almost smelled the playoffs, they'll be in contention next year for the wild card.

Iznogood as long as that might sound, we need a QB idk what promise u c in Beck when he had 3 fumbles and 3 ints in one game. Thats all im saying the rest of the team needs a spark a leader in the locker room. A Ray Lewis or something signing these players will mean amazing things and motivation for them they need DB real bad and some body in the center thats why they should draft Dorsey first and im pretty sure Brennan might fall to the second round because of his Hawaiian schedule. This is what I want to c for the Dolphins o yeah and making Cam Offensive Coordinator and hiring Cowhler as head coach cause he can turn the team around.

I keep telling you the best GM in NFL history is gonna trade his 1st round pick for the Patriots 4,5,6,7 round draft picks, and with that draft a punter, long snapper, kicker, and holder because the Dolphins dont have enough "special teams specialist"
