08:58 AM ET 08.27 | The Eagles have received "multiple" trade offers for Joselio Hanson, and it appears there's a good chance the Eagles will trade the veteran cornerback by final cutdown day on Sept. 3, a league source familiar with the Eagles' thinking said Friday.

Did he REALLY think he was gonna stay with the Eagles?

Of course they want to trade him ... they can't afford the cap hit if they cut him. They'll be looking to trade half their team in the next 4 years to pay for the 2011 overspending.

The backups that they are going to have are going to be low-tier minimum based salary players. Bottom line.

haha....took the cat outside for some quality time...damn Eagles better get that offensive line fixed and fast......c ya Joselio......my favorite Joselio moment?...He covered T.O. when he came to Philly with Dallas and nobody knew who Joselio was....Eagles put him 1 on 1 and he pretty much shut him down...

That's what other teams fans would like to believe. But it's simply not true.
11 of the free agents Philadelphia acquired all signed one-year contracts. So they'll have zero affect on the Eagles future cap.
Jason Babin and Cullen Jenkins each signed five-year contracts but neither player is guaranteed money after 2011. And Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, acquired via trade, is guaranteed no money after 2011.
Of all the players Philadelphia acquired this off-season, Nnamdi Asomugha is the only player with money guaranteed after 2011.
Philadelphia acquired a lot of talent, yes. But they did not set themselves up for future cap hits.

I like Joselio Hanson but it was difficult to watch him tackle receivers. He'd bring them down, but they'd drag him a good five yards during the process.

Exactly!...a lot of people don't realize the contracts or cap space of their own teams let alone other teams...Eagles are still under the cap this year by over $2M and will be sitting pretty next year

Give the Iggles front office some credit. They're loading up, but not at the expense of future cap hits.

If Philly wants to keep these guys beyond one year they'll have to pony up and get creative. There are only so many tricks of the trade.
1. Signing bonus with one year contract (rarely used).
2. Signing bonus with front-loaded salary structure (rarely used).
3. Signing bonus with back-loaded salary structure (most common).
When players start drawing the huge $$ on those back-loaded salary structures it's most common for the front office to push for a restructure -- turning next year's salary into a signing bonus then stretching the remaining balance over 3 years of increasing (back-loaded) payments and giving a 4th year of "new money" that will never come to fruition.
If Philly wants to keep these 11 free agents they'll most likely ask the long-term highly paid players for a restructure while at the same time letting other players go due to cap implications in order to clear space. It will be interesting to watch especially if the 11 free agents don't pay dividends this year.

Yep... This is a good example of a team adding pieces to a solid foundation without having to worry about dead money in future years.
It's a roll of the dice with some level of confidence in the outcome.
Still... You had better keep Mike healthy - he is the lynch pin to all of this.
