Criticism of Mauer's toughness 'unfair'

09:19 AM ET 08.28 | Joe Mauer called recent criticism of his willingness to play through injuries "unfair" and acknowledged that everything related to a long, disappointing season for the Twins' highest-paid player can be tied directly to the state of his health, which isn't good. "I've just never been one of those guys who talks about any of that," Mauer said before Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers. "I've always said, 'If I'm in the lineup, I'm in the lineup.' "Obviously I think everybody can see that I'm not 100 percent, or healthy, but I'm going out there for the team and trying to be a good teammate."

He didn't play the other day because he had a stiff neck from catching a fly ball. He's soft.

first of all, why does he is in the lineup? can anybody tell that he itsn't a 100%? and if he itsn't a 100% that means he's unable to contribute and to help the team, this guy walks in one limb but he does that by taking little jumps, the GM should know better, when a player itsn't playing a 100% you don't need to ask just about nothing, the output from this guy playing time tells you everything, its like forcing the engine to give you more when you already know that your motor has a blow headgasket, all in all mauer shouldn't have played any single game until he be completely healthy, by placing him in the lineup every day the manager doesn't hurt mauer but the whole franchise, every manager should know when its the right time to place any player in the roster, injuries only can develope more injuries and if the franchise refuse to acknowledge that, these or those players would never heal properly unless the management use the right approach, only a blind manager would keep playing injured players plain and simple!!!

People don't go around looking for things to call Mauer, who is probably as great a guy as he is a player. That label is coming about because he's "earning" it. I hate to say it but the guy is fragile.
