Sources: Arkansas kicked tires on Big 12 move

10:37 AM ET 08.28 | During last summer's realignment, a third party extended feelers to see if the Big 12 would be interested in adding Arkansas, sources said. Arkansas officials adamantly denied ever expressing any interest in being in the Big 12. But if Arkansas were to express interset in the Big 12, it appears the league would be receptive to an application for membership from the Razorbacks, sources said.

Seriously Beebe's, and the conference's, strong ties to Fox Sports has served to limit exposure for most teams in the conference, both nationally and regionally. Arky games are on TV every week in one form or another thanks to the deal Slive worked with CBS and ESPN. Why would Arky and their fans settle for less exposure from a 2nd rate cable rights owner like Fox?

There is no telling how all this will turn out. The "doing everything for $$$" mentality may leave some programs in the dust. As loyal as they are to their original conferences, I can't see the Dukes, Vandys, Minnes, Iowa States, etc of the world bringing as much to the table in terms of football $$$$ as the Florida States, Alabamas, Ohio States, Oklahomas of the world. FCS numbers will increase or there will be another division for such schools...just speculating.

It's unlikely to happen though. Big 12 can't offer TV exposure to teams is small population states the way SEC does. The snot-nosed MBAs over at Fox can't wrap their little brains around the concept of weekly TV exposure for everyone, and Beebe is too worried about the effects of TV exposure on gate receipts at places like Iowa State and Kansas.
It will never happen as long as Beebe and Fox are in control.
