Recruit adds Michigan to list

05:54 AM ET 12.17 | West Virginia is out of the Terrelle Pryor sweepstakes and Michigan is in. That's some of the recruiting fallout from Rich Rodriguez's decision to leave West Virginia University to become the new coach at Michigan. West Virginia was one of the five finalists on the list for Pryor, highly touted quarterback at Jeannette High School. His others were Ohio State, Florida, Penn State and Tennessee, although he said yesterday that he has crossed Tennessee off his list and might consider Oregon. But upon learning of Rodriguez's move, Pryor said, "Michigan is back on my list." Pryor said Rodriguez and his spread option offense were the main reasons he was considering West Virginia. He also said he liked West Virginia assistant Tony Gibson, who was recruiting Pryor. Gibson is expected to go with Rodriguez to Michigan.

RR makes Michigan the front runner in the Pryor sweepstakes. He will be excited enough to move Michigan past OSU and PSU. Florida and Oregon are pipe dreams.

Nice pickup for Michigan. Maybe the Big Ten can now move into the 21st century with the offenses.

Nice pick.

December 17, 2007  10:22 AM ET

Pryor is also interested in playing basketball, which Michigan is trying to improve on. He would be a good fit.

December 17, 2007  10:48 AM ET

ClintonDFW has a point. Most of the Big Ten schools (with exception to Illinois) run traditional offenses. Some people still enjoy the pro style, but other offenses are more creative.

December 17, 2007  10:57 AM ET

This notion that the Big Ten runs an old style offense is crazy.

Schools that run the spread:

Indiana
Illinois
Northwestern
Michigan-Now
Ohio State-Troy Smith won a Heisman running a hybrid of this offense
Penn State-Ran it with Michael Robinson
Purdue

All of these schools run or have run the spread based on the athletes they have on the field. Good coaches don't have a cookie cutter mentality when it comes to gameday tactics. Good coaches adapt their tactics to the athletes they have.

That is why I am hoping Terrelle Pryor realizes that if he goes to Ohio State, Jim Tressel will mold the offense around him and make him a better passer. Something I don't think RR has shown he can do. Pat White is still a pretty bad passer without playaction off the option.

and Matta has already stated he is more than welcome to play bball for the Bucks...
OSU can run the spread, they did it a little this year with Boeckman, and Smith ran it as well as anyone, ask Michigan. So I hope he becomes a Buckeye, if not no gold pants for you Pryor.....

Gator fan here, Pryor should go to Michigan. I know Florida was high on his list but I don't like when Gators have highly talented QB's just riding pine for 3 years. I'm not a hater. Pryor should go to Michigan or FSU for sure. I agree with icetree.

Like Christmas for the TRUTH!

Amen TRUTH.

Christmas came early for sports fans in southeast michigan. Tigers pull off an amazing trade, Michigan football gets a coach, Pistons dump Nazr and are winning with young guys off the bench.

Santa, Make my year complete, make ford sell the Lions and fire Millen.

WVU better stop the bleeding fast before they share the same fate as Nebraska with its recruits.

Players learn their loyalty from coaches. And nowadays, it seems like it's few and far between.

Regardless of where he ends up, I hope the kid is a bust

December 17, 2007  01:05 PM ET

They need to schedule WVU soon...

December 17, 2007  01:08 PM ET

FootballGuru, apart from Clausen, who felt he needed to announce from the college football hall of fame - and therefore asked for everything he is getting and more - why would you hope any kid busts?

December 17, 2007  01:42 PM ET

I agree, even if he doesn't sign with OSU, I still hope he does well, if he has that much natural ability and keeps a good head on his shoulders, I think the sky is the lmit, so I say good luck wherever he goes.

December 17, 2007  02:01 PM ET

Footballguru..how could you? That's not very Christmasy
