08:03 AM ET 09.01 | The new sheriff has been in town for a little while now. For more than 30 years, the Washington Redskins and their fans have witnessed an NFL anomaly that Mike Shanahan is in the process of reversing. Ever since George Allen left after the 1977 season, the Redskins' coaches have fit a description that is seldom heard in professional football: Nice guys. Well, that's over. And about time. One reason the Redskins look much improved in the exhibition season is that they are once again led by a dominant personality type that has often succeeded spectacularly in the NFL: a gloriously lopsided fanatic. ... Someday, it may wear thin. Right now, the Redskins and their fans are ready for a full adult dosage.

Nice guys = cupcakes. Good luck with that!

Looks like somebody is bending over to receive his punishment already. Slap that butt, Shanny.

One thing that hasn't changed: they still do QB controversies in DC. Even tho no matter how hard you squint, Beck and Grossman don't look like the second coming of Sonny and Billy.

Get as mad as you want Shanny, it's still a crappy team. You're just going to make yourself more miserable as the weeks progress.

Redskins are certainly overdue for a decent season, they've had what? 2 trips to the playoffs this millennium? Just can't see Shanahan being the guy to do it.

It might say that in his official bio, but the only way he's 5'10" is if you measure him in his custom made cowboy boots

While using his other hand to singlehandedly (haha) capture Mallomar GaDaffy and turn him over to Nancy Grace for interrogation, or maybe to be her partner on Dancing With The Stars.

So as long as I kept my hand on his forehead he could never reach me. The reason he was shorter was because #1 The screen makes everything look bigger #2 he wasn't wearing his high heel boots.

Maybe because of all the Senior Citizens shrinking.
