Hughes signs ticket for bullpen

08:08 AM ET 09.01 | Phil Hughes may have sealed his own fate Wednesday. The decision is coming, finally, and as much as it may pain Yankee fans to hear it, this team is better off putting [Hughes] in the bullpen, even if it means giving A.J. Burnett an undeserved free ride as a starter. Fortunately for the Yankees, they can make it to October even if they have to drag Burnett along with them to the finish line. Once they get there, Burnett won't be a factor. Hughes won't be either, not as a starter, anyway. Even on nights when his stuff is crisp, as it was [Wednesday] night against the Red Sox, he's still not able to maintain it deep into the ballgame, for whatever reason.

Phil did look pretty good early in the game.
I was surprised by how hard he was throwing, 95+...maybe he didn't pace himself and got gassed.

Hughes didn't look all that bad last night, concidering how he got knocked around the game before. Not a very good choice deciding between Hughes and Burnett as your starter.

Maybe the reason Hughes doesn't last far into the game is once a line up has seen his stuff a couple of times they have him figured out.

That can happen to any pitcher, no matter how good they are.

The Giants dropped Rowan yesterday as well as Tejada. The should have gone for the trifecta aand dumped Zito as well. Tejada's no big deal, but they'll be paying Rowan $12MM to lay on the beach next summer.
