Twins asked closer if he wanted out

08:10 AM ET 09.01 | Minnesota's career saves leader was reportedly worked up earlier this week as the roster freeze deadline approached. Joe Nathan had 30 minutes to decide if he was open to a trade. The Twins insisted they didn't have a deal cooking. They were just checking to see if Nathan wanted to move to a contender, as they did last week with Jim Thome. ... A player must sign a consent form to waive his 10-and-5 rights at least 24 hours before he's traded, and that decision had to be made before Tuesday at 11 p.m., since Wednesday night was the deadline for teams to submit potential postseason rosters. "The tough part was the timing," Nathan said. "They came to me with 30 minutes left until the deadline."

They were cooking up a deal. They just couldn't deal Nathan without his consent.

Getting a deal on the table in the last couple of minutes before the dealine and then, oh yeah, Nathan has a 10/5 clause we better ask him if he'll accept a trade. What the hell is that?

The Twins need a new stadium financed by the public. That will cure all their ills.

The Twins should keep Nathan and fire GM Bill Smith ASAP. The guy is a joke and has taken a franchise once known for developing talent straight into the gutter.

Hard to maintain what the Twins have done, trade their stars for baskets of premium prospects, when other teams are more and more not willing to trade these top tier prospects.
they have a reputation for developing their own talent, with a little help from baskets of prospects.

and they need to sign the New M&M boys to big long term contracts, that should solve everything.

Couple problems with that.
1)Mauer already has a long term contract.
2) Morneau hasnt gotten over his concussion he had 14 months ago & is a shell of his former self.
What we need is a power righty, and a true ace. Liriano isnt it.

A good agent would have prepared Nathan for that question a week before it came.

McCourt has taken the heart and soul out of the Dodgers. No one cares about a team that doesn't care about itself.
