Come Feb. 9, ARCA/REMAX Series fans will have one last shot to see a legend tour the 31-degree high banks of historic Daytona International Speedway. "This will be my last time to race here at Daytona," said 73-year-old James Hylton from the garage at historic Daytona International Speedway Saturday, the second day of a three-day ARCA RE/MAX Series test session in preparation for the ARCA 200 ARCA RE/MAX Series race.

hmmm...I guess eveyone was wrong about NASCAR not being some
kind of grueling sport for the young...I wonder what the conditioning regiment is at his age...you know to step on those pedals and stuff...I wonder if the BMV needs to check his eyesight? Lets hear it once again for the world of racing...The most ridiculous non-sport sport for illiterate fans everywhere!

This is for all those people who think NASCAR is not a grueling sport!...Consider if you will the workout regiment at his age...pressing pedals...shifting gears...a few obligatory "yeps" and beer sips....If the BMV approves his vision...I wish him well...in this the worst of all of America's non-sport sports.

When he did this and almost qualified last year, it was a great story. I even rooted for him to qualify. Now it's becoming more of a sad publicity stunt. I wish the guy a safe ride, but there's got to be a better way to add to the legacy than by trying to get your name in the record books. Let this be the last one, James. Don't become a punchline. More importantly, don't give Spencer a goal.

Hylton is a grand old driver and I appreciate his history - but this seems a little silly

Nascar has already approved the dog with the bouncing head in the back window. Did this guy use to drive in the convertable division...or is that too long ago?

December 17, 2007  02:11 PM ET

I have no problem with him attempting to qualify. NASCAR requires all drivers to be cleared medically before they can compete. As long as he meets the NASCAR requirements to be allowed to drive he should be allowed the chance to compete.

I have no problem with any driver who is medically and emotionally cleared to drive to make an attempt. This man has more experience as a race car driver than the majority of drivers in the field.
