09:24 AM ET 09.03 | The frustration stemming from the shortage of production from Adam Dunn, Alex Rios and Gordon Beckham recently reached a boiling point between general manager Ken Williams and hitting coach Greg Walker. Walker took issue with Williams' comments about Beckham's swing, and after he and Williams exchanged heated words in the tunnel leading to the Sox clubhouse at U.S. Cellular Field, Williams told Walker to clean out his locker, a source said. When chairman Jerry Reinsdorf was made aware of what happened, things were smoothed over.

so i take it he didnt have to clean out his locker after all?! :)

Williams must be feeling the heat by now.

I don't blame Williams one bit for the Sox sucking majorly this year. Adam Dunn averages 38-40 HR a year then comes here and forgets how to hit. Rios had a good year last year and isn't this year. Beckham is just a bust. None of this is Williams' fault. He put a good team together on paper and they choked.

As he should, that Dunn acquisition is a millstone around his neck.............oh and NOT trading Beckham for A-Gon, how's that working out?

They didn't need Gonzalez, they had/have Konerko. They did need a second baseman, hence Beckham still on the team.

I don't follow the central all that closely so I was surprised that they were 3rd worst at scoring runs in the AL.

This year has just been a huge disappointment. Before the season started, everyone was praising Williams for putting together, in my opinion and that of many others, the best team on paper in White Sox history. This year's team has the highest payroll in 110 years of White Sox baseball. The pitching staff and bullpen have been pretty good, but the offense has just been lacking. Dunn was supposed to just be himself and hit 38+ HR, especially in US Cellular Field. Rios was not supposed to utterly suck. Beckham was supposed to become the stud player he was hyped to be.

September 3, 2011  10:02 AM ET

Hey CSF, I'm sorry to hear that, man. I'm East Cost so I don't know a whole lot about the Central, but it does sound to me like a pretty solid lineup.

It sucks when your plan for the season just blows up. I hate to sound cliche', but that's why they play the games.

I agree with you that it's hard to blame Williams for players not playing up to potential but at some point the media and fans are going to push for change. Well ok the media more so than the fans. Over the last 6 years they seem to have a good year then a bad one then a good one then bad and this year was the bad one.

no Ozzie reply yet? can't wait!

You are exactly right. This team just didn't have what it took to not utterly suck and disappoint.

Their last good year in my opinion was 2008, when they last made the playoffs.

I hated the Dunn signing fron the start, but how did the guy get this bad over night? Rios averaged .315 last year with over 20 homers and 80 plus RBI and now the guy can't hit a parked car... Beckham needs to be replaced.

Hated it from the start? It was a highly-praised acquisition last off season. All he had to do was continue what he'd been doing his whole career. It's not like you foresaw his disappointing season.

Now we know why Verlander is having such a good year. Everybody in the AL Central sucks. I'm not trying to take away anything but when the WSox and Twins cant hit or field, & the Indians have prospects, it just inflates his #s.

Correct I did not think it would be this bad however, this is the man who struck out more times in one season than any player in the history of baseball and the only man to have 12 plus home runs in a season and ZERO sac fly's.

I'm a die hard White Sox fan and I want them to win as bad as anyone. Thats why I didn't like the Dunn singing.

Actually, the White Sox can field well this year, which is pretty funny because they usually can't field well.

September 3, 2011  11:34 AM ET

i mean i guess he deserved whatever Williams had to say to him.. but it all depends on the way you say it ..

I'm pretty sure the guy who plays 3B for the Orioles, Reynolds, holds the most Ks in a season record.
