Heat to pursue Nene

08:15 AM ET 09.04 | Though the Heat isn't very optimistic about its chances, expect one of the Miami's first post-lockout calls will be to Denver free agent center Nene, who opted out of his $11.6 million contract for next season. It's difficult to see Nene accepting a mid-level exception from Miami if there is a $6 million one in the new labor deal, but he told us previously that Miami is appealing to him.

If Miami can get Nene, that's a scary proposition. Nene has made his money, and he might be willing to take a pay cut to play for a ring.

On the other hand, I would like to see ATL go after Nene too.

Nene wold probaly be willing to take a pay cut, but not for half of what he's can make in Denver.

Everybody wants to play for the ring, but with Lefake the Heat of zero chance.

Someone needs to teach these writers how to write properly. "Though the Heat AREN'T very optimistic about THEIR chances". Jesus.

Isn't management looking for a "hard cap" that would actually be lower than the current Heat cap?

Better screen your calls, Bro.

Nene would be a great fit for the heat, if they can get him to sign for half of what other teams can offer. Nene isn't a great player but he's versatile and will be highly sought after. Nene would fit well with Miami, okc, and many other trams. There is no way he returns to Denver

It's definitely a long shot but don't underestimate the lure of being able to tell him championship appearances are on the way with or without him. I won't be shocked if he goes to the heat but I wouldn't bet on it. Other contenders can offer him far more than the heat. The only thing certain about nene is that He won't be back in Denver
