08:08 AM ET 09.05 | Is the Kerry Collins era about to begin in Indy? The availability of quarterback Peyton Manning for the Indianapolis Colts' opener Sunday at Houston remains in doubt, and further uncertainty arose Sunday. Various reports mentioned the possibility of Manning missing the game. Manning and Colts owner Jim Irsay could not be reached for comment. Colts vice chairman Bill Polian told Sports Illustrated's Peter King, "I don't know anything about that. I honestly don't." [A Sunday Twitter entry [from WFNI-AM] cited "multi sources" reported] that Manning "needs a 2nd neck procedure. Will remain out indefinitely . . ." Manning missed the preseason while continuing his rehabilitation.

Well that's not good. Maybe Indy now enters the "Luck Sweepstake".

UH - OH.....Looks like the streak is over.

September 5, 2011  08:28 AM ET

Not only is the streak over but now the fantasy draft top 5 guy looks like a middle 2 or top 3rd round pick.

I got him as an 8th round pick in my draft Saturday...

September 5, 2011  08:42 AM ET

IF this is true, the Colts will have one very high draft pick next year. Bummer.

September 5, 2011  08:43 AM ET

let's hope he's able to come back and play at the level we're used to seeing...I'm not ready for the Brady vs Manning battles to end yet

September 5, 2011  08:47 AM ET

How much guaranteed money was in that contract? tsk tsk

Damn it too...dam autodraft gave me the idiot

Keep him, he'll be back by mid-season and be GREAT for 5 games, but wow, a high 1st rounder burnt.

September 5, 2011  09:02 AM ET

They better start signing some extra RB's.

September 5, 2011  09:04 AM ET

Too bad it isn't Peter King that is out indefinitely.

Nice.

The Texans might have a chance to win the AFC South if this is true.

They're gonna have the same chance they had every other season before. Collins and Painter are gonna come in and manage the game.

September 5, 2011  09:48 AM ET

It may not be the end of his career, but it may be the end of greatness. I suspect he'll come back, but he won't be as effective, and he certainly won't be a durable as he's been all these years.

Get well, old man. The NFL is a better place with Peyton Manning in it.

September 5, 2011  09:59 AM ET

Well, the Texans and Gary Kubiak's futures just got so bright that they will be blinded.

They will but don't sleep on Jax. They were tied for first going into the last weekend and they've made some good additions to the defense. I'm sure not too many people would agree with me but I'm sticking with Jax to have a shot at this division.

That's to bad. I like Manning I wish him nothing but the best.
