Miami fires defensive coordinator

An ailing Miami offense was joined this season by something unfamiliar to Hurricanes football fans the past several years -- an ailing defense. And in response, UM coach Randy Shannon has taken action. Shannon fired defensive coordinator Tim Walton on Monday, two sources close to UM confirmed Monday night.

I am glad that Shannon is doing whatever it takes to bring this program back.

Report Offensive CommentTHANK YOU RANDY!!!
We all worried about the offense coming into the season, I saw marked improvements on offense but the defense couldn't keep them in games! When does a Miami def get over 40pts put on them three times in one season?!??!?
This was a great move, they picked the right guy to bring The U back.

Report Offensive CommentI hope I'm not proven wrong in the near future, but this is one of the few stand-up coaches in Division IA

Report Offensive CommentI've been impressed with Randy and I think he'll get the job done if they'll just give him a little time. Too often anymore it's you get two years to take the team to the conference title or you're out.

Report Offensive CommentWashington also fired their DC. and who are they looking to replace Kent Baer?.......... Today's Seattle Post Intelligencer included a "Defensive Coordinator Wish List" for Kent Baer's replacement. One candidate of note was Bob Davie. While this is probably unlikely, it would be fun to see the Willingham and Davie dream team in action.
"BOB DAVIE
Head coach, Notre Dame (1997-2001)
Davie has been out of coaching for six years and served as a broadcaster on ESPN and ABC. He is a 3-4 specialist and that is a scheme that could serve the Huskies well since they are light on defensive linemen. If Davie is looking to get back into coaching, this could be an attractive job."
More of ND's sloppy seconds.

Report Offensive CommentI dont think this will affect Brown's commitment because all of Miami recruits are committing to shannon....he is taking an up-front forward approach to recruiting that is really hitting home with both local and national recruits alike
