Johnson: Strasburg totally in control

08:16 AM ET 09.07 | Nearly 400 days since his last MLB start, Stephen Strasburg returned in dominating form. The Dodgers managed to hit only one ball loudly -- a line-drive out directly to the rightfielder -- as Strasburg left with a 3-0 lead after five innings. His maximum was supposed to be four innings, but he made the Bums look so bad he earned a fifth frame and still needed only 56 pitches. Too bad for the Nats, he had to leave. They stunk subsequently and lost, 7-3. "Totally relaxed, totally in control, strong at the end, he was special," said Manager Davey Johnson after Strasburg's first pitch was 96 mph, his last 97. "Shoot, he just made it look easy."

I was wrong yesterday, This guy dominated the game, even if it was for 5 innings, it didn't matter. I think he got stronger as the game went on.

Maybe he'll be the Mark Prior that never was.

I'm hopeful. One small step at a time. The Nats fumbled in the 2nd half this year but in my mind they are showing a lot of hope for the future.

If he dominates, it should be covered.

kid is scary good

I hope he comes back stronger and better than advertised...he is a great talent and I enjoy watching him pitch...now if he can just help get Bryce Harper's head screwed on straight they could have a great young duo for a long time...or at least until they are UFA's...then they will leave for greener pastures

strasburg, will become very conssistant pitcher through every game that he be in the mound, and there shouldn't be any major setback after all he has proved us wrong that he its healthy and not sick at all!!

the nationals will be ready for the 2012 season, now what the nationals will need its a better pitching coach, better hitting coach, and better manager because johnson hasn't convense me at all, if the nationals continue with this type of negative aproach towards replacing their manager, then even with strasburg this team will remain a 500 division team!!

It's great seeing Strasburg come back. It'd be even better if he's the key to building a consistently strong, viable franchise in D.C. It can happen with good management. Look at Tampa Bay. Hopefully, the mgmt. in Kansas City, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh continue to make smart moves and rebuild those franchises as well. It'll be great for baseball.

Nats already have the pieces
SP; Strasburg, Zimmermann
RP; Storen, Clippard
Hitters; Ramos,C Werth,RF Morse,1b, Espinosa,2b Zimmerman,3b Harper,?

What more do you need? Time for the Phillies to get old and the Braves to get injured. Nats are gonna be competing for the NL East for a long time soon.

Strasburg is gonna be at least a 15 game winner next year.
