08:29 AM ET 09.07 | Fear not, Caps fans. Labeled as overweight, out of shape and one of the primary reasons for the Capitals' second-round playoff exit last season, [Alex Ovechkin] conducted his first news conference of the new season Tuesday and sounded like a man in the best shape of his life. "People were a little bit scared about what happened to my body, but my body is perfect right now," Ovechkin told reporters after announcing a six-year endorsement agreement with Bauer Hockey. "It was interesting for me, because that's never happened to me, people saying I'm in bad shape." True or not, Ovechkin said he adjusted his summer workout regimen but failed to give specifics.

So perhaps it's the "leadership skills" that has the rumored "gut" mentioned recently? Or perhaps he's looking in the mirror through his tinted visor, his version of rose colored glasses?

Maybe he thinks his body doesn't include his head...

He might need to contact a better PR firm.

Here's a little trivia for you. Ovechkin had 32 goals last year and so did Sid Crosby.

The first time I'm grateful the interns didn't bother looking for a relevant picture.

LMAO. I've seen (pictures of) Ovie's Dad. I think you have a good point! His Mom, I've read, was an Olympic athlete, but she's not exactly petite either? :-)

Apparently a plane went down carrying an entire KHL team...not good

The plane was carrying members of a Continental Hockey League (KHL) hockey team based in Yaroslavl, Lokomotiv, to a match in Minsk, Belarus, state-run RIA news agency cited a regional Emergency Situations Ministry official as saying.

Several former NHL players were on the team's roster, including Pavol Demitra, who played for the Ottawa Senators and Vancouver Canucks, Karel Rachunek, who played for the Senators, and Ruslan Salei, who played for the Detroit Red Wings.

The team's coach, Brad McCrimmon of Plenty, Sask., is a former Calgary Flame who won the Stanley Cup with the team in 1989.

Apparently crashed on take-off. Very tragic news. Makes everything else seem a bit meaningless right now.

Apparently so. Report I saw said "36 killed and one missing and presumed dead".

And just a touch more for you...That was not all they had in common.
Sid's head was the same diameter of O.V's waistline at seasons end.

One survivor with life threatening injuries.
