08:28 AM ET 09.08 | Eric Fehr will miss the opener in one of the must-see games of the 2011-12 season: the return of Winnipeg hockey. As much as it pains him, [Fehr] will be in a sharp suit instead of a jersey on opening night as the Winnipeg Jets host the Montreal Canadiens. Although the Winkler product continues to make progress from off-season shoulder surgery, he simply won't be ready in time. "I have full intentions of missing the opener," Fehr said Tuesday after the Jets unveiled their new jerseys. "With that in mind, I'm just trying to make sure I'm healthy and when I come back, I'm back for good. It's coming along pretty well. It feels strong, but you have to be a little extra careful because it is the second surgery on that shoulder."

Looks like you will succeed, Eric.

And for the record, he really did say that.

If the Leafs are playing that night then the CBC will make sure the rest of Canada "has full intentions of missing the opener."

I always liked Eric. Hard worker and a good guy to have on your team. I hope he can help the Jets. I guess "eloquence" may not be his strong suit, but what the heck, he's not running for anything.

They scheduled the opener on Sunday (10/9) so it wouldn't interfere with the CBC's plans to show the Ottawa/To***to game on Saturday night. Lucky you!

Agreed. And even if he did run for office, he would still sound better than W.

Some of the GOP candidates actually make W sound not so bad, if you can believe that.

Nice to know. There's nothing better than looking forward a Sens/Leafs debachle.

It already does to those of us who believe in things like science and facts. Not many of them in last night's audience I would venture.

Nope. And that makes me feel better I don't have any (that I know of).

The first of a long string of Saturday night Leafs games the CBC insists on shoving down the country's throat....

I read the headline and thought why would Donald Fehr be at the game in Winnipeg? Glad I read that wrong.

Heavy Sigh. Sadly you're right.

But it's kinda like going to see the Washington Generals. It's usually more watching the other guys beat the crap out of them.

They do face a lot of good teams on Saturdays. They also play the Senators often on that night.

Hope he never feels welcomed at any of the league's rinks. I sure would throw anything I could get my hands on if he came within range.
