Rodriguez making changes at UM
Rich Rodriguez, whose spread option offense put West Virginia one game from playing in this season's national championship game, said he planned to take a similar philosophy to Michigan, where fans might think the often-heard phrase "establish the running game" is the university's motto. Rodriguez evidently intends to shake up Michigan's staff of assistant coaches, even though most are under contract through next season. Two of his assistants from West Virginia, the offensive coordinator Calvin Magee and the secondary coach Tony Gibson, flew to Ann Arbor with Rodriguez and will join him at Michigan, he said. Rodriguez said several current Michigan assistants would remain.

Good Michigan needs a new offense after the performance they had this last year! Hopefully we can get that prospect Terelle Pryor :-)

"Rodriguez evidently intends to shake up Michigan's staff of assistant coaches, even though most are under contract through next season."
MU's current staff should know that Contracts mean nothing to Rodriguez... They had better start looking for a job.

Especially if they think they're working for MU. Since that would be in Wisconsin.

You WVU fans are amazing. As if it is uncommon for a coach to come in and hire his own assistants.
I, for one, think that he should get rid of the offensive guys, and keep the defensive coordinator and assistants. The thought of a WVU caliber offense with a Michigan defense is mouth watering.

Mouth watering? As in, "Oh great we're on defense. I think I'll go now to get my bratwurst!"
Because we've been so good against the good offensive teams in the recent past?
The thought of a WVU offense together with a Michigan defense SCREAMS of a lot of 48-46 nail biters to me. The only difference is we actually have a chance to outscore opponents now.

KRAZ: It's nice to see someone that isn't completely blinded by their own bias. No doubt, defense wins championships, offense sells tickets.

I wouldn't read anything in the UM assistant coaches being signed through next year. Part of the Lloyd Carr's agreement with UM was that his assistants would be paid through the end of next season. This was agreed upon by Bill Martin when Lloyd made his intention to resign at the end of the season known to Martin back in August.
Nice hire that brings a change to Michigan. Really no concern that Rodriguez is not from within the Michigan Family. Remember, a guy named Schembechler came to UM with a background in Ohio football, from being an assistant under Woody Hays to being the coach at Miami of Ohio. Also, Bo was not the first choice of UM when he was hired, a guy with the last name of Paterno was the first choice. You all know how that turned out. Furthermore, it's true that WVU didn't exactly step up in the big game against Pitt, but it's also tough when your starting QB goes out with an injury in the 1st quarter to return one handed in the third.
Finally, it also should be pointed out that it seems that every coach this year seemed to suffer a major upset. Les Miles is a fine coach but to say he would be a better choice for UM simply because his team is in the championship game is odd, being that his team was also upset in the game they needed to win to guarantee a spot in championship game. As it were both teams, LSU and OSU backed into the championship game because the #1 and #2 teams lost to allow the LSU OSU matchup

IMHO, this was a better hire. Miles is an idiot. I'm glad he's staying in the SEC, along with Fulmer (although it looks like he's the only one on the Tennessee crew staying).

I'll take an imbecile that beats you, Florida, or Virginia Tech, over a genius that loses to Louisiana Monroe, Pitt, Kansas State, or Texas Tech. All the imbecile does is win games!

Why are there still a bunch of SEC fans on the Michigan threads? Particularly the LSU fans. Les Miles isn't coming to Michigan. I don't see how a thread about a coach from WVU going to UM devolves into LSU fans talking smack to Florida fans.

Oh, I am so sorry Ryan. Michigan owns this forum. LOL, no wonder you guys could not find a coach in the daylight.

What about an imbecile that loses to Kentucky and Arkansas?
Your day is coming. Wait until all Miles only has his own recruits. LSU will be stuck in mediocrity for years. Sure, his gutsy play calling will lead to a few upsets here and there, but he is too inconsistent to be at the top forever. His stay at the top ends when Saban's recruiting class does.

He has his own recruits Bi. Satan's recruiting? These athletes come tio play for LSU, not Satan. They may come to play for a coach where you are from but here on the Bayou, they live to be Tigers. And what BCS game is your team playing in?

I guess you guys are all the better with Rodriguez. From a coach who loses to App. State, to one who loses to Pitt.
