08:05 AM ET 09.09 | Peyton Manning's most recent neck surgery Thursday will keep him on the sidelines for some time. [Manning] could sit out the entire season and possibly more. It was the third neck procedure in 19 months for Manning, 35, who has missed only one play because of injury in 14 seasons. The development is probably crippling to the Colts, who scrambled to sign veteran Kerry Collins. ... Asked about the likelihood of this being a career-ending situation, [Dr. Rick Delamarter] said: "That would surprise me. I think there's a high likelihood that he will recover from this surgery, get back in shape and be able to play again." But Manning might not be able to resume his career, Delamarter said, if the injured nerve root doesn't recover totally.

I hate to say it, but we may have seen the last of a great player. But, I think he's the kind of guy who will come back if he can.

I'd like to say that it's a sad story but Manning and the owners have been pretty irresponsible in both his treatments and his recovery process.
One can't ignore how much their interest in getting him back for the short term was done in complete disregard for his long term health

That will depend on the Giants offensive line.

He'll certainly try to come back. Whether or not he'll be the Peyton manning of old is anyone's guess. He's no spring chicken.

It's a bit sad that he's injured, but he's had a helluva career already, good enough for the HOF. I don't think it would be that sad of a story if this is it for him.
It could be much worse: see King, Bernard.

He certainly has been one of the all time greats and it would be nioce to see him get back to action.
But based on what I've been able to gather if he wants to play again he'd do well to write this season off and look forward to getting one or two more years out of that 5 year contract he signed in July. If he tries to rush back this year and doesn't let the healing process run it's course he runs the risk of much more serious injury. The kind that can put you in a wheelchair for life
