Astros make Prior an offer
Posted: Tuesday December 18, 2007 07:00AM ET
In an effort to add depth to their starting rotation, the Astros made an offer to free-agent pitcher Mark Prior on Monday. Prior, 27, the second overall pick by the Cubs in the 2001 draft, missed the 2007 season while recovering from right shoulder surgery. He became a free agent when the Cubs declined to tender him a contract by Wednesday's deadline.

I was hoping the Yanks could get him for the bull pen this year but I bet the Astros are offering a starter position.

Report Offensive CommentYeah, a starter position so he can throw his arm out again, and make a few million while he's at it...

Report Offensive CommentI like the idea that the Astro's see Prior as someone who can "add depth" to their rotation.
Cub fans might disagree.......

Report Offensive CommentJust introduce him to Tejada long before the season starts and everything will be fine.

Report Offensive CommentI think Prior will have a bounce back year.....I think hes at least at the top of available pitching free agents....i think the reward outweighs the risk....just my opinion.
Let's try that name again... | 12/18/07, 04:35 PM
Report Offensive CommentI think that you must have missed the last 3 or 4 years of Prior being on the DL... I think you have no idea what you are talking about... I think Prior is broken... just my opinion.

Report Offensive CommentThank goodness he is gone i couldn't take his crap anymore, it was so depressing. In the midst of playoff race, Prior "is on his way back", & then BAM! He breaks his left nut or something and is done for the season and then some. The guy is so fragile it's just annoying to hear his name, BUT I will LOVE to hear it in the Astros' organization when they go "Prior, TRYING to come back from pitching that simulated game, will ATTEMPT to make the flight to Los Angeles to watch the series."

Report Offensive CommentHey, why not? If he returned to form he would be a steal. However, if you think that he's a great pickup I have a bridge in New York to sell you.

Report Offensive CommentIf he goes to Houston maybe he can train with Roger Clemens and learn how to "get in shape" like Roger? Roger has a healthy arm. :)

Report Offensive CommentWow, I didn't know that Houston needed some depth on their DL for 2008.....

Report Offensive CommentPrior can come to New York. It will give Pavano someone to talk to.

Report Offensive CommentPrior was a great pitcher when he was healthy, too bad that Baker ruined him and Wood in Chicago.

Report Offensive Commentnew news prior went to padres which is a better deal for us. it would suck to face him in a houston uniform and does well. at least we won't have to face him as much. hopefully we can get a pitcher we can count on next time.
