Doughty not expected at Kings event

08:23 AM ET 09.09 | An event this weekend will likely lead to more questions in Los Angeles. Restricted free-agent defenseman Drew Doughty is not expected to attend the Kings' Fan Fest, to be held Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Staples Center. Since he's not signed he's not obligated to attend promotional or other team functions, and he's not on the participant list the Kings sent out Thursday. His absence should add spice to the first event, "State of the Kings," a scheduled two-hour session that will include a question-and-answer session with General Manager Dean Lombardi. That should be interesting, to say the least. Lombardi said Thursday through a team spokesman that he and Doughty's agent, Don Meehan, have agreed not to comment publicly about the negotiations.

Crazy how they're dragging their heals on signing this guy. Guess they are still counting cap coin and don't want to bust the bank.

They have been 'busting' the bank though. Doughty's camp turned down a reported offer of 9 years at $61 Million

It's called a long vacation.....NEXT!

What kind of bogus nonsense is this? You're an entertainer. You have or will become wealthy by virtue of the fans' goodwill and their abundant willingness to spend top-dollar to watch you perform.

Show a little class. Attend each and every event; gladly signing every last autograph you're asked to sign and spending time with those who admire you and put bread on your table.

And never forget how damned lucky are.

I didn't know that...more than generous if true with his experience and age, these guys are getting way too greedy. Maybe he should just get some tats and go play hoops.

Too much cash for a young d-man who hasn't really proven himself yet.

The Oil could use just about anyone Thief...Actually it's almost alarming that the boys in Deadmonton somehow missed a shot at drafting him in the first place....Must have been some sort of aberration...wouldn't you say?

Nearly $7 million a year for a defensemen who had 11 goals last year? He was a plus 13 so that says something, but still.

We have had many aberrations Bondo. Too many KLowe years but I think we might do alright this year but I could be as wrong as rain like I usually am.

September 9, 2011  09:43 AM ET

The deal was reported yesterday. Thinking is that he wants a short term deal so he can test free-agency in 4 years

Well maybe you are and maybe you're not...but rest assured Thief that in a very short time these stories will be about the Oil's youngsters...Drew is only like 21 yrs old.
See what all these young draft picks are going to get you in no time.
Heck...I could Feasterly see the Oil wandering around in the desert for decades to come....;-)

And there are many deserts around to wander through here too. More like tundra but for us eskimos we think they are deserts.

Lock the guy up, if it needs to be short term that buys you time to lock him up longer next time before anyone else.
