Quarterback controversy at Texas?

09:59 AM ET 09.11 | It had to happen. Mack Brown waited long enough. Garrett Gilbert had to go. It's nothing personal against the Texas quarterback - he's a pleasant young man if ever there was one - but the kid just hasn't shown himself capable of leading an offense that's sorely in need of a caretaker at the most important position in college football. Now what? Well, we get what offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin gave us: a two-headed youngster at quarterback: sophomore Case McCoy in the role of Chris Leak and freshman David Ash doing his best imitation of Tim Tebow. Hey, it worked to the tune of a national championship for Florida in 2006, and while we're not about to anoint these Texas Longhorns as a national champion, it's certainly OK to call them a team that just found their identity.
