The perfect captain for the times

Callahan is a good choice for the "C"

Appointed by Tortorella, not voted on by the other players on the team.

Let's see how that works out.

Cally more than deserves the C and hopefully will be wearing it for many years to come. I think they got it right with Staal and Richards as well bc while Dubi may deserve an A, it makes more sense to give it to a veteran guy on another line. Cally and Dubi are on the ice together for the majority of the game anyway and the main function of the C's and A's are to communicate with the officials..

I agree with Callahan over Richards.

If they wanted to give it to a Dick you'd have Captain Avery.

Someone has to explain to me why Richards, whom has never even had a PRACTICE with his team, gets an A. SHows how much value is actually put on this garbage. Its all for fans & media.

He was an alternate captain since '09 I believe, and also was voted Players Player by his teammates last year.

I agree w/ the 'appointment'. And I think the rest of the team could get behind that, as well.

He's a Conn Smythe, Cup Winner. Gotta be good enough for an A

Callahan is the right choice. Home grown player and not a Sather "Marquee purchase".

It looks like Tortella, in the picture, is practicing what he will be saying to Richards this season: "How many fingers do you see?" :)

Thanks for the info NYR. I'd still prefer it if the players has voted him in instead of reading that Tort selected him.

Not a whole lot of reasons to dislike this. I very much doubt the players themselves would've picked anyone else to officially lead this team.

But now you've turned into a warm and cuddly information volcano spewing information from coast to coast throughout North America. Go figure....

Incidentally, I agree fully with your view that coaching is not a popularity contest. Be fair.....ok, but you're the only one with a vote.
