Niners may soon unleash offense

08:02 AM ET 09.13 | Despite his reputation as a quarterback-maker, Jim Harbaugh never did promise the Niners would air things out. Instead, at least through one whole game, Harbaugh's offense turned proudly blue-collar, relied on its defense for field position, and produced a decidedly grunge-y performance. The 49ers tallied a measly 209 total yards, which stirred up sharp Singletary memories. ... There will be new things to see on offense, too, at some point. Probably. "There's more to come," [Delanie Walker] said. "It's early in the season. We've got a lot of games ahead of us. We don't want to give everything away. "Just stay tuned and watch the show."

Harbaugh looks like he wants an apple.

September 13, 2011  08:10 AM ET

Well... this is the week to unleash it.

<looks at schedule and prays for no stupid plays from the 49ers competition this Sunday...>

LOL! Morning, Tx!

September 13, 2011  08:41 AM ET

No, Jim, the best way for your team to move the ball is to take 3 knees and punt on every series. Besides, that will get you to commercial faster, and maybe Bud will show an ad with Clydesdales for you. You'd like that, right?

I thought so. Have some oats.

September 13, 2011  08:43 AM ET

Well that's what they said after the final preseason game. The 49ers would not have had to reveal their whole offensive arsenal if they had only scored TD's instead of FG's when they got the ball handed to them in the Red Zone. Prove to the fans that this team is capable of scoring a passing TD.

September 13, 2011  08:46 AM ET

Like I said before....as long as Alex Smith is under center, WE'RE SUNK!!!

September 13, 2011  08:49 AM ET

"relied on its defense for field position"

They played the Seahawks. It's not as if they had the Packers offense pinned back all day. Seattle went backwards in the offseason. See Tavaris for an example

Unleash the offense? What'd they do, acquire a real QB?
