Warriors brass unveil bold (outrageous?) plans

08:10 AM ET 09.15 | While the lockout drags on, the Warriors have time to think big. In his first meeting with Warriors fans, new coach Mark Jackson started an impromptu chant of "De-fense" among a confused audience, which has rarely heard that word while missing the playoffs 16 of the past 17 seasons. "Don't stand up and clap when we're a playoff basketball team, because we won't be standing up and clapping as a team," Jackson said. "Our ultimate goal will be to hang a championship banner." Those kinds of stirring and outrageous statements were the norm as about 3,000 Warriors season-ticket holders listened to a panel discussion with the team's hierarchy, including Jackson, co-owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber and executive board member Jerry West.

They have decent talent that can sneak into the playoffs with great discipline but to mention championship is just wrong...

Talk is cheap. Mike Tyson once said, "everybody has a plan until they're busted in the mouth." Everybody's a contender in September. When the season starts, this team will do what they've been doing for 16 of the last 17 years. They don't have the personnel to compete for a championship. For Jackson to imply that they do just shows how clueless he actually is.

Sneaking into the playoffs happens only in the East. That's where below .500 teams like the Bobcats get in where they fit in. The Warriors will have to use the Memphis Grizzilies blue print by getting a low post presence like Zach who can get 20 pts and 10 rebs night in and out.
