Front-runner in UCLA search

UCLA officials may have moved a step closer to finding a new football coach, after Rick Neuheisel was brought in to be interviewed by UCLA Chancellor Gene Block on Tuesday. Neuheisel, currently the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, was interviewed by UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero last week and is believed to the front-runner for the position. DeWayne Walker, UCLA's interim head coach; Norm Chow, the Tennessee Titans' offensive coordinator; and John Harbaugh, a Philadelphia Eagles' assistant coach, were also interviewed for the job. But the source said that Neuheisel is the only one of those four to receive an interview with the chancellor at this time, a necessary step before a job offer can be made.

Yes, he's done such a great job with the Ravens offense....

December 19, 2007  09:22 AM ET

He's the Ravens O-coordinator but he doesn't call the plays. It's not a surprise he's looking for a new job.

December 19, 2007  09:28 AM ET

Neuheisel did a fine job with Colorado, I can't see why he wouldn't be offered this opportunity. He is a good coach.

December 19, 2007  09:32 AM ET

He did alright at Washington. He might not be a bad choice.

December 19, 2007  09:32 AM ET

I've got his name in the coach pool, so let's hope he comes up blue and gold.

December 19, 2007  09:38 AM ET

So I guess the thinking for UCLA is that USC is getting their stud recruits via some shady dealings, so they have to keep up. Neuheisel may be a good coach, but he doesn't some much pay attention when it comes to the rules.

I just think he's got too much off the field baggage to hand him the reins of a multi-million dollar football program. It's a coaching hire that almost guarantees instants NCAA scrutiny for your program.

December 19, 2007  09:42 AM ET

He's an excellent college coach

December 19, 2007  09:46 AM ET

He's a flaccid bag of free-form helium.

December 19, 2007  10:49 AM ET

Crimson_Star is right he's a good coach, but do you really want the NCAA breathing down your neck.

December 19, 2007  11:06 AM ET

The ruins will never compete against USC! The ruins are the little sister in Los Angeles.

December 19, 2007  11:07 AM ET

Hire Norm Chow if UCLA wants to compete....or they will always be and stay USC step sister

December 19, 2007  11:09 AM ET

I like Norm for UCLA but I don't know if I was a USC fan if I would like that idea much.

December 19, 2007  12:19 PM ET

He's a grad correct? He's in like an affirmative action hire

December 19, 2007  12:39 PM ET

Norm Chow seems to be the most intriguing.. That would be pretty weird.

December 19, 2007  12:45 PM ET

Say hello SANCTIONS! I bet in about 2 years they will be under investigations. Then he'll leave and head to another school and try and steal players from UCLA. What a joke!

December 19, 2007  01:07 PM ET

A former quarterback/lawyer/head coach at Colorado....

This guy's a ****!

December 19, 2007  01:07 PM ET

F.L.A.M.E.R.

December 19, 2007  01:54 PM ET

Good lord. Has anyone at UCLA actually watched the Ravens this year?

This guy wouldn't be there for the long haul. Three years max, and I'd bet there would be NCAA rules infractions.

Not what UCLA needs.
