09:40 AM ET 09.17 | The day after being informed by the NCAA that three of their elite recruits were declared academically ineligible to enroll at St. John's, coach Steve Lavin and his staff were working feverishly with the players' families and advisers to find a way to keep the trio in the fold. Darrow Garrett, the father of forward Amir Garrett, vowed to The Post that his son would be in a St. John's jersey for the second semester. Don Anderson, the adviser to forward JaKarr Sampson, said his player's heart remains with St. John's and emphasized Sampson had not de-committed. Norvel Pelle Sr., Norvel Pelle's father, was the least optimistic, but said he hoped his son would be a Johnnie. Pelle, the 6-foot-10 post player, is the highest rated recruit at No. 23 in the freshman class, according to Rivals.com.

The only amateur sport more corrupt than CFB is CBB ... and it's not even close. CBB has become a NBA farm system that shows little resemblance to the CBB of 15 years ago. Recruiting has integrated street agents into the process so much so that the best talent is "sold" to the schools for a one-and-one-half semeser commitment. The coaches will push the talent to the NBA to keep the street agent pipeline intact. It has progressed to the point where I don't care to watch anymore unless it's my favorite team ... and then I find myself rooting against the one-and-done tools on my own team. Oh, I'll watch the NCAA championship game too but not many others.

On the positive side, two of the kids' fathers were at least involved enough to speak to the situation. Now, dads, if only you could have ensured they went to class a bit more ...
