10:49 AM ET 09.17 | Victor Ortiz's trainer Daniel Garcia has been calling attention to what he calls dirty tactics by Floyd Mayweather Jr., hoping that referee Joe Cortez will take note and force Mayweather to change his style. Garcia said that Mayweather used his elbows against Ricky Hatton and often turns his back to his opponents. Cortez was the referee in the Hatton fight and he never took a point away from Mayweather. "The trainer said that I'm a dirty fighter," Mayweather said. "I have to say, who ever has known boxing to be a clean sport? Boxing is a dirty sport. When you're in the hurt business and you're trying to hurt another individual how could it ever be clean?"

It's fairly obvious that there is a certain amount of dislike and in some cases, hatred for FMJr, and I am constantly disappointed in Floyd's inability to "honor thy father" and the disrespectful irreverent way he behaves, but I am equally appalled by the lack of outrage over the intentional headbutts by VVO. He had attempted the same dirty tactic twice before the point was ultimately taken and appeared to be attempting to "foul out" of the fight to avoid quitting again. I'm not so sure that he didn't allow himself to be knocked down since he looked over at Mr. Cortez instead of putting his hands up after the first punch in the 1-2 that ended the contest. There is no friendly reconciliation period in a prize fight, despite the implication of such a thing by Larry Merchant, so Mayweather did the right thing in throwing the final 2 blows, I'm just not sure if Ortiz couldn't have answered the count.

BS.
VO was horribly wrong for the intentional headbutts and should have been Dq'ed. But to praise a HOF, All-time great boxer for hitting a man who was obviously defenseless is the silliest thing I have ever read.

and the money saying i don't need paquio, paquio needs me is bull, and it seems like money is more concerned with the 0 next to his record and not actually fighting pac-man, and you know why, it's because he knows he would lose, or at least be challenged and that can't happen. Plus we found out from arum before talks fell apart they had a 100 million dollars on the table, and money turned down the 50 million, no all money wants to do is be a sideshow and fight lesser opponents so he can keep the 0 next to his name. You think the guys he idolized did that, no they took on all comers, but for flloyd it's anybody but manny

It's sad how we define the word "champion" today.
Both VO and FMJ show a lack of fortitude, character, and judgment yesterday.

and what part of what I said "praises" FMJr?

I'm not even a FMJr fan (As evidenced by my earlier post), but I can at least be objective. I am a true BOXING fan, not some Larry Merchant knock-off like some who are posting comments here are. If Mayweather launched his head at Ortiz in the same fashion, these same folks would be asking for him to be expelled from boxing. Sometimes, you just have to call a horse a horse and put your petty biases aside. I can do that, can others?

I understand your point, you love FMJr, and that's OK. But to disrespect one's father in any way, especially when your uncle is obviously enjoying it as part of his own twisted sibling rivalry is just sad, and I won't pretend that this is OK! I hope that FMJr, gets over his pain and baggage one day, but I don't hate him for it, it just disappoints me. As for all the other loud, over the top behavior, not what I would do, and bottom line, it turns people against him. I know he doesn't care, but what sociopath ever does?
no-brainer

You can't really use a dirty tactic on someone and then complain about them doing something dirty to you. Bottom line is that if Ortiz doesn't try to launch his head through Mayweather, there's no stoppage and no chance for Mayweather to "sucker punch" him.
Either way, Ortiz would have eventually ended up on his back. He was getting hammered by those rights and he had no answer.

A win for Mayweather, another lost for boxing. As long as Mayweather gets paid, he doesn't give a crap about boxing. Ortiz did a dirty move, topped off with Mayweather doing a dirty move. Great future for boxing!!
