Posada likely to watch, not catch Mo's 602nd save

08:16 AM ET 09.19 | The Yankees had to wait at least another day to watch Mariano Rivera claim one of baseball's most impressive testaments to career longevity, but they likely won't be adding a fairy tale twist to the moment when it does come. Although Yankee manager Joe Girardi appears willing to entertain the idea of having Jorge Posada catch [Rivera's] record-breaking 602nd save, the manager seemed hesitant about following through with the sentimental plan. "It's not something that we've done a lot," Girardi said of putting Posada behind the plate. "We've caught him one time, and the games are important right now. It's something that we can talk about, but I'm probably going to stick with our catchers. That's what I'm going to do."

They should resign Paul O'Neill, Bernie Williams, Scott Brosius, and Tino Martinez, let Rivera get two strikes on a batter with two outs in the ninth, and then put them all on the field with Posada catching.
Then Posada should give up several passed balls, all the other old guys could make a bunch of errors, and the Yanks could lose.
Then the Yanks could start all the rest of these guys the rest of the season, lose all their games, and let the Bosox claim the wildcard despite playing horribly.
(Bosox fan wet dream in progress, you can safely ignore this)

Girardi is the only MLB manager that would have even kept Posada to sit on the bench. He should just sit and enjoy these final days in a MLB uniform.

Its not only a career longevity record but it really kinda helps playing for an All Star team for 16 years...Still think Hoffman's 600 is more impressive considering the teams he played on for his whole career.

It sucked!!!
However, it will be an interesting last week and a half of the season to determine if which team out of the Red Sox, Rays, or Angels take the wild card.

If he wants one, he could have an MLB job next year. Hell, even with his crap season this year, he'd be like the 2nd best hitter on the Giants.
