08:10 AM ET 09.19 | Not only will Chone Figgins not play this season for the Mariners, but, according to Eric Wedge, he won't be traveling with the team, either -- but Wedge had much more to say before Sunday's game. Wedge was talking pre-game about the latest neck problems for Brendan Ryan and said it was certainly "an issue" for the shortstop moving forward. Then, Wedge let fly with this: "A lot of these guys are going to have to do a better job in the off-season," Wedge said. "We're going to have a lot of discussion with some of these guys about the work, the time, the effort and the discipline they're going to have to commit to in order to be able to come out here and play 150 games if we need them to play 150 games." Wow.

They thought they were in the "Suck for Luck" sweepstakes.

Or what? He will trade them to another team? He will cut them? Either way, it's better than playing for this crappy team.

September 19, 2011  10:46 AM ET

"2012? 2011 is a disaster, let's not get ahead of ourselves here." NEXT!

September 19, 2011  11:37 AM ET

"or he will not like them very much."

September 19, 2011  11:56 AM ET

They thought they could replace Beltre with Figgins. lol

They do have some pieces in place to be a .500 club, but not much more than that unless the entire team outperforms expectations.

Ummm why is it a big deal for the manager of a team that isn't going anywhere to be lighting a fire under the **** sphincters of his players if they need to get their stuff together? 'Threaten' away Wedgie!

September 19, 2011  12:32 PM ET

Accountability. What a concept. You go, Eric!

September 19, 2011  12:57 PM ET

You're out of your element, Donnie!

They ARE this crappy team!

September 19, 2011  03:27 PM ET

who are they gonna trade? They only have 2 or 3 marketable players. OK, lets see...I'm the GM of a competing club, you have a problem and now you want it to be my problem? Oh yeah, that ought to work out just fine. Nice to see they have the foundation for a solid plan in the Northwest. Too much coffee, lay off the caffine man

pederast, where the heck did you come up with that? This is a jock page, too much thinking. My head hurts just like Eric's

September 19, 2011  03:54 PM ET

Kudos to Wedge...you shouldn't have to "threaten" grown men making millions of dollars to be ready to play a game...they should be ready on their own without the threats...but if that is what the Mariners players need then that is what they deserve...how about man up and be ready to do your job

September 19, 2011  05:26 PM ET

the whole team will need to work harder in the off-season, as everybody should know this mariners have replaced the regular players with three AAA players!!
