Mizzou staying or going?

08:16 AM ET 09.21 | With the Pac-12 holding steady at a dozen, the falling dominoes may not be quite as heavy. The future ahead for the Big 12 and Mizzou remains uncertain. But MU had contended all along that its best option was to remain in the Big 12, despite the infighting that has led to three schools choosing to leave in just over a year. Even in the face of long odds against its survival, MU chancellor Brady Deaton, chairman of the board of the Big 12, relentlessly has expressed that he believes the conference still could thrive with nine remaining committed members and a strategy to aggressively add at least one other substantial member. The Pac-12's announcement may douse the surging possibility of MU going to the Southeastern Conference.

Perfect. Stay in a 'conference' where no one trusts anyone else and everyone is expected to kiss cow's ring.

Me thinks these conferences may be having second thoughts about getting too big!

True. Mizzou may not have a dance partner next time the Big12 is imploding (next summer...)

They are and the P12 is not expanding right now per the P12. SEC rejects WVU and likely won't take Mizzou. But they will take the rejects.

Couldn't resist that aggie zinger! lol

So do the sheep molesters tear their own fence down in retaliation often, or is that just one tilted infantryman?

Um, Wow.

Humm the PAC-12 don't want to put up with Texas prima donna BS. Kinda makes ya think don't it.

Of course. Will not miss them. Supposedly some of these wetawds actually wanted to start a call in campaign to the P12 presidents asking them not to take Tx or the LHN. just embarrassing

Apparently it worked, just saying.

Well, the Pac didn't - something like "we have a strong conference structure and culture of equality that we are committed to preserve". Translation - if you don't want to split the money take a hike, or possibly you have caused enough problems where you are and we don't want to deal with that here. For all the talk about Texas' noble behavior to keep the Big 12 on life support, it all came down to their refusal to fold the LHN into the Pac's existing media structure - ie, you'd have to share. Funny, I recall several posts about how Texas was actually looking to share with A&M when this all started, but have somehow had a change of heart now that dollars are involved?

Seriously, I do not blame you one bit. Texas should get whatever they can for their work/product and not have to share it. I'm just more than a little tired of the "we tried to make everyone happy" song and dance. It's insincere at best. Just say we got paid and we're keeping it - nothing else necessary, and nobody has any right to **** about it. There is no collective good involved here, everyone is simply doing what they can to help themselves. Capitalism at work.

I will seriously be surprised if y'all manage to hold the Big 12 together for more than 2 more years though. I hope you can make it work, but doubt it. It's a really tough sell to keep a conference together when you have 2-3 teams people care about watching and the rest of the schools are essentially mooching off the tv money generated by those few institutions.

We had it so good that we felt guilty. Here are the options.

1) Stay put - Texas furthers its already significant advantage -->not difficult to see where that leads.

2) Leave - get more money, more TV time, etc. Downside is we don't get to play Texas every year. "We can live with that". Plus, when Texas gets the LHN up and running and decides to test the waters in a few years, we don't have to scramble again.

Y'all are operating under the assumption that A&M requires Texas - that may be true for Baylor, ISU, Kansas, etc but us cutting and running probably isn't going to amount to too much to us. Do you think we recruit kids by telling them "hey, you'll get to play Texas if you come here"? Only thing that might hurt is a kid's parents not wanting to travel to Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa, etc for away games every other year.

Financially, this is an easy decision. Competition wise - our butts are gonna hurt for a few years til we adapt. Status quo is unacceptable.
