Kings give away Doughty's locker stall

08:22 AM ET 09.22 | The Kings are trying to move on without Drew Doughty in the fold. As long as [Doughty] remains unsigned -- and there's no telling when the restricted free-agent defenseman's dispute with the Kings will be resolved -- Thomas Hickey and Viatcheslav Voynov will continue to dream their NHL dreams. Each made a solid impression in the Kings' first Staples Center exhibition Wednesday and stayed in firm contention for a roster spot. Voynov, who was given Doughty's locker at the Kings' practice rink Wednesday morning, came to the net to poke in a loose puck during a power play and Hickey had a goal disallowed on a dubious goaltender interference call on teammate Kyle Clifford.

Once he signs, they'll let him pick any locker he wants.

Now this is a news flash for sure. Where oh where will Drew get a locker now? Every day a new low is reached in the Weekly World News-like coverage of hockey. Sheesh.

For what? Just curious to see what you'd give up for him.

Fantasy draft Strange. I don't know what they would have to give up, but it would be a boatload.

this sounds like one of those, "my parents rented out my room" thingys

I don't understand why no one has signed him to an offer-sheet. This kid is amazing!

I'd give up two firsts, a 2nd, and a 3rd. Give up what the compensation is for signing him to an offer-sheet.

I don't care if you finish last again and give up the 1st overall pick (which Edmonton wont if they have Doughty), because odds are you aren't gonna get a player as good as Doughty next draft.

If you have to deal players and not picks, maybe a package of:

Omark, Lander, Magnus (the 3 Swedes) and then I guess a defense, one of either Gilbert/Smid/Whitney. I think that should be enough, but if it isn't add some draft picks that aren't 1st rounders.

Why would you want to pick up a kid who thinks he's the second coming of Bobby Orr? I don't care how good he really is, I wouldn't want him now just because of his attitude.

Good for the Kings. I know it was just a symbolic jesture, but they are telling him that they are moving on. Who is going to be hurt worse if he doesn't show up this year?

But who gets his shower flip flops?

He might not be the second coming of Bobby Orr, but he is the second coming of Ray Bourque.

He is worth $7 million easily. Especially if the cap keeps going up, and salaries too. In 5-years, $7 million for Doughty will be a discount, both because he will be the best and because salaries will be a lot higher.

But I hear Doughty wants to sign a short-term deal, and I think that is what has the Kings in a tougher situation than the salary. Doughty only wants a 3-year deal or less, the Kings want to sign him longterm.

I knew you would hear the cowbells ringing Argos. I would love to see Doughty in an Oil uni too.

So the Kings finally had a productive off-season instead of just striking out on UFA's and what do they do....

Dude is just going to alienate himself from the fans for holding out for what most will never make in 20 life times.
