08:34 AM ET 09.23 | By virtue of his name, Christian Hanson is part of hockey's fabric -- and he's looking to make his own name in the game. [Hanson], Son of "Slap Shot," has probably been asked the question more often than he's seen the movie. Regardless, the Capitals' 25-year-old forward loves telling the story about the first time he saw his father, Dave Hanson, wreaking havoc on the ice as one of the famed Hanson brothers in the 1977 movie that has become a cult classic among hockey fans. ... "I was shocked," said Hanson, who will get another opportunity to make the Capitals roster Friday night when they face the Blackhawks in Chicago.

Hanson's has good size, grit and some decent hustle. I watched him play with the Leafs, the last couple of seasons - There were a few nights when he seemed to be the only one trying, out there...Pretty decent budding power-forward.

So (of course) the Leafs cut him loose. Makes perfect sense.

How did he get to the caps? Did the Leafs cast him off and Caps signed him or is this a tryout?
