Why we can't expect much from Gabbert

08:13 AM ET 09.23 | The Blaine Gabbert era is now underway, which isn't to say the Jags are going to start whipping the ball around the field. "We're a run-first team," offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said Thursday. "To be successful, we need to run the ball. That's no secret to them, either. We're going to try to run it and they're going to try to stop the run." The Jaguars rank sixth in rushing offense after two games and Carolina ranks 19th against the run, 26th in overall defense. Their two best linebackers, Jon Beason and Thomas Davis, are out for the year with injuries. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew is off to his best two-game start with 185 yards rushing. Koetter thinks he abandoned the run too early against the Jets last week.

Unless Mathis can bait some INTs out of Newton, the Jags might be in for a long day Sunday. Establishing the run is fine until you fall behind.

Agreed. Jacksonville should be looking for a coach real soon. Of course, they should've already been looking for a new coach, but better late than never.

Another Fun Fact: Although Jacksonville has a large population, the surrounding areas are sparse. The city is the smallest television market in the US to host an NFL team.
So, not as many people to disappoint.

It's all in the name. "Blaine Gabbert" will have about as much success as Byron Leftwich and Browning Nagle.

Weaver bought a lotta defense. Poz & Sessions at linebacker, Landry and Lowrey at safety, Coleman at nickel, Roth at defensive end. Nobody's noticed that the Big Cats are better on D? Luke lost the Jets game with four picks. AFC South is wide open. 8-8 could win it. Bet The Kid wins eight games.

Last time I looked, Houston was still in that division. I don't see 8-8 winning it.

I think Andy Dalton is in a similar situation, so I don't think you need to qualify what to expect.
