The significant downsides to playing in China

08:16 AM ET 09.23 | So, just what are Kenyon Martin, Wilson Chandler and J.R. Smith getting themselves into? How would you feel about playing in a league where the players have no power, practices go on for five or six hours on off days, there are bus rides that would make a minor league baseball player wince, and forget about post-game food spreads, or even a good college training table? China still sound inviting? There is a reason the Chinese Basketball Association has the highest turnover rate of foreign players among professional leagues. ... Those Chinese teams pay big money for a short season (it ends in March) and NBA players dream of expanding their name and brand in a massive untapped market in China. Like a 1940s cartoon character, their eyes become dollar signs.

It'll be a good experience for them seeing how other players live and how the NBA truly spoiled them.

So true. that makes them even more pathetic. JR Smith has too take less money to fly half way across the world to pay his bills, even though he made 50$ million over his career. can't believe that K Mart is following suit. How much did that fool make? Close to 100$ million for doing little or nothing on the court.

Why so many negative comments? The NBA is locked out and these guys are looking at other opportunities. In the era of globalization and corporations going to China making billions of dollars, what exactly is wrong with NbA players going there?

Nothing is wrong. Its just a matter of a totally different lifestyle. The question is, will they be willing to adapt?
It's harder than it sounds, and I have been to China multiple times (on business).
