08:28 AM ET 09.23 | In terms of theater, there are few more compelling coaching matchups taking place this season than Mark Richt vs. Houston Nutt. For Richt and Nutt, it's two cases of "what have you done lately." Nutt's first two seasons at Ole Miss were the best back-to-back campaigns the Rebels had had in almost 50 years. In his 11th season at Georgia, Richt has two SEC championships and a .729 winning percentage that is 13th in league history. "If you look at (Richt's) record and how good he's done, it should never be a question," Nutt said Monday. "But that's not the world we're in. The bottom line is: Did you win your last game? And we didn't. That's the water that you're in, and the water is going to be hot."

Getting out-hustled by BYU at home doesn't help either.

Groundhog day. We've beat this horse. Next

UGA fans should take heed of what happened to UTk upon getting rid of Fulmer. It was the right decision, but man it's gonna take a while to get back to the top...if ever.

It's the way you have accomplished those numbers that is the big sticking point. Having fantastic seasons at the beginning for about 5-6 years and then abysmal seasons the last 3-4 is the way that happens. If you reverse the ortder, he's in fine shape.

It really is a case of what have you done for me lately, but that is the nature of sports. You are on trial every year. You must produce.

Oh, and there is no reason for Nutt's team to be this bad.

September 23, 2011  09:18 AM ET

Nutt does great w/ someone elses players.......after that, well.

IMO, there's no reason UGA to be this bad. Great recruits, great tradition, and as of right now...much easier division to win in.

All well stated. The difference between now and back when Richt was winning is that the most of the rest of the SEC got their collective acts together.

Nutt is gone before the season is over.

Last game.. day after... they have some talent... I dont see Ole Miss winning more than 4/5 games...UGA still has a shot.. But I see 8/9 wins.. I dont think they beat UF... Maybe Ga Tech.. Is 8/9 wins good enough... Or will they allow him to sacrifice the OC

Richt has been holding on to his OC for too long. He had his pick of firing coordinators and did not pick Bobo the OC clown.

Ole Miss's Bye week is coming up. If they are 0 fer heading into that week the AD gets the NUTTcracker out of the Christmas box.

Double D can get a good jump on the future by beating UGA this year. It's plausible...

If he had the abysmal seasons prior, he would not have been around for the fantastic seasons.

It's not only plausible, my fellow Vol - If the TN D plays like they did against Cincy and UF, we will take that contest. Did you see how the Bearcats sliced up NCSt last night? It tells me our D could develop into a formidable uniit as the season goes on. Looks pretty good considering the youth. The way they played against the Gators gives me more hope than concern. They were put into numerous bad situations that yielded only FGs instead of TDs.
