08:15 AM ET 09.26 | Count Carlos Pena among those who believe Albert Pujols will stick in St. Louis. Pena drew two walks [Sunday] and had a chance to chat with Pujols at first. Did he ask the Cardinals slugger what's next? "No," Pena said. "That's the question of the ages. I wish him the best. He deserves the best. The fans don't want him to leave. It is truly a pleasure to watch him play, hit and try to beat him. Every chance you get, you try to neutralize him. What a fierce competitor, but most importantly a well-respected professional and hands down, one of the best guys in baseball." The multi-million dollar question now is whether Pujols will stay in St. Louis or leave. There have been rumors circulating about him possibly switching sides and going to the Cubs. Said Pena: "I see him in a St. Louis uniform."

I do too ... not that my opinion matters

and oh ... by the way ...

I hope Carlos is right. With Albert back, the Cards should be able to make a pretty decent run at the Central the next 2-3 years. Especially if Princess leaves Milwaukee.

It's a bad year to be a free agent 1B. I'm hoping they both stay put. Is it really worth a couple of extra nickles to go to a bad situation?

September 26, 2011  09:53 AM ET

I wouldn't mind having him back...............as long as they don't break the bank to keep him!

September 26, 2011  10:06 AM ET

Pena also sees Al Gore as president next year, Greece as the top economy, and dead people.

September 26, 2011  10:54 AM ET

Well of course he is going to say that, Carlos wants to stay with the Cubs and they are one of the top teams to get Albert if he doesn't stay with the Cards. The Cubs would be the only team stupid enough to sign Pena to a contract, so yeah I would say Albert is staying with the Cards also so I could get another contract that pays me $10 million to hit 165 w/risp bat 220 and just basically suck.

pujols may stay, pujols may leave, but who knows what really its going to happen with pujols? the player has express his discontent with the teams offer, 9 years/ 195 millions, that would give him about 21 millions per season plus that's not the type of number pujols was looking for!!

If he's looking for an A-Rod type deal, I hope he isn't holding his breath

September 26, 2011  11:01 AM ET

the cardinals, cubs, mets, angels, blue jays, all this teams shouldn't forget long term deals usually are bad deals, five years deal its a decent number, if for whatever reason the player or the team its not happy they allways can trade that player and the contract, as long the contract itsn't too hefty!!

September 26, 2011  11:03 AM ET

pena could play either in the pirates team, or the royals, or he might go back and play for the rays for couple years!!

September 26, 2011  11:04 AM ET

I would be shocked if he left the team he is the leader and they should pay as much as he wants. The fans love him.

September 26, 2011  11:06 AM ET

the angels could try to sign pujols, but how much would cost them to get pujols? the player like's to sign ten years deal, but the angels only sign a player for five years deal and no more than that!!

September 26, 2011  11:27 AM ET

the angels have learned in the hard way, they don't a good closer, they don't have a conssistent rotation, they don't have a lefty in their rotation, they don't have a power hitter, their DH spot was a mess the whole year, and what's the worse of all their offense its soo thin that any threeple AAA team can beat them without any problem, if the angels would like to show different type of face next year then they must focus in their hitting problems, either the fire their hitting coach or hired and extra hitting coach, enough its enough with this passive hitting coach!!

September 26, 2011  11:31 AM ET

braves should focus in their weak offense, and i mean now unless they would like to be ashamed in their playoffs in the first round!!

Sorry but NO, they shouldn't pay him as much as he wants because he's not worth it - just as A-Rod isn't worth that ridiculous contract the Yankees signed him to.

Its a good year to be a 1b. howard signed that 5yr/$125M contract last year. Fielder & Pujols will use that as a starting point in negotiations. Add in Pena and there will be a bidding war, 1b is loaded this offseason.

if they even make the playoffs.

I just do not see Pujols playing with any other team. Unless the Cardinals really lowball him, he'll be their first baseman until he retires.
