08:16 AM ET 09.26 | Is Mike Leach on the list of candidates at New Mexico? The answer seems to be a resounding yes. Within minutes of releasing the statement that announced the firing of Mike Locksley, New Mexico AD Paul Krebs texted his qualifications for the new coach. Head coaching experience is strongly preferred. Ability to recruit in Texas is a virtual must. Also, ties to the Albuquerque area will be considered. Leach qualifies for all three. He spent a decade at Texas Tech recruiting Texas. Lubbock qualifies as having area ties. It is 320 miles from Albuquerque. Don't sleep on this situation. New Mexico's interested. Is Leach?

It would be a huge comedown from Tech, but much better then unemployment. Thanks to Craig and ESPN, he must start from the bottom and work his way up again. Maybe he should wait for the UNLV gig.

Only a comedown in regards to the reputation of the football program. Albuquerque is a pretty nice place to live....compared to anywhere...so peep won't think I'm picking on Lubbock.

River, come on now, you are better than that. It has very little to do with "Craig and ESPN"!!!! The guy made his own bed, let him sleep in it. Regardless, I wish Leach good luck, because IMO he is a good coach and deserves another chance!!!!

Guess you can believe what you heard way out there and I'll take what the TT folks I know say. If it was anyother player than a James, nothing would have been said...was ALL Craig James and his ego
